Chapter 1.3 The Macha Doctor, What Really Happened

General Summary

They came back, got a promotion from Lyth. Met Layla again for a quick hello. Lyth told them about her, they already knew. They debriefed Lyth and told her about the Malum quest. They got gold and got a promotion to Special Ads. They were given free time until further notice. They went to the bank, got gold for the monsters, went to Troy to get some armor and the general store for a Healer's kit. Went back to the bank to apply for grant for Del, got a grant, met a merchant that sold them a pendant for the Mortal religion. Decided to learn more about the religion and went to the Pale Druids library where they met Sebastian and Vess (Branwen knew them). They learned that Mortal is a religion on life and death. Clerics and Necromancers seem to favor it, and the Goddess's name is Malyora. They wanted to learn more and decided to try and ask Kol about it so they went to the Nutriment District to see if he was there. It was a little late so her wasn't and then they went home. Branwen saw that her window was slightly open. Gusgus was fine and all of her things were as well. She found a single bootprint on the floor near the window and a small note in front of her picture with Fajra and herself saying "I didn't know this was your home, I didn't steal anything I swear." Was suspicious, but then decided to simply sleep it off. Branwen slept late, and they all went back to the Nutriment Disctrict to meet Kol. They went into his small office to talk and asked about the religion. He didn't know much, but did know of someone who might. He directed them to Theo on the promise of them helping with recent Demisent Macha being stolen. They agreed and went to the Shining Goods guild to pick up Del's armor, and talk to Theo. They met him, he told them a little bit about the religion but for them to know more they needed to give him some of their secrets. After talking it out, they eventually agreed. After the secrets, Theo told them about an incident that happened with Mortal religion where several clerics and necromancers were trying to extend life by doing unsavory things and sacrifices. Malyora herself showed up and killed them all. The scene that was left was withered bodies, some of them smiling. After getting information, they left and went to the General affairs building to go accept the quest for missing Demisent Macha. They went to the scene and investigated the house. Fulcrum found that there were indeed two people that came in last night, and a piece of Saux Stone that seems to belong to a Sent with a few tiny specks/pieces of the rock on the floor. After that they decided to go and ask the Macha Wizard artisans about the stone and went to the castle.
They went to the castle, met two artisans and they told them to go to Shining Goods because they sold the empty Saux Stone to them. They left the castle, went to check on Joe Nurmal and he was just about finished. They debriefed a bit and he told them that he'll go fill in the reports for this. Then they went to the shining goods, ask the general merchant clerk about the stone and he remembered a bit of an incident that happened about 3 years ago. They figured they had enough information to search for an incident back in Silver leaf Army archives, so they went there. They met Joe again, and he helped them look around in the archives for the incident. They found it and started reading that there was a hideout with the location of the bandits. It said that the bandits were taken and imprisoned, but no other information whatsoever. Joe went to ask to see if there was other information and it was restricted. Joe said he could maybe get more info if given enough time and appeal. In the meantime the party decided to go check out the hideout. They found it, fought off a few Forgotten Ones, and saw the scene before them in the cave. The noble murdered was called Malkolv...something. They found 5 skeletons and writings on the walls that said "I am not one of them!" over and over again. They went to explore the north side, and found a couple of documents and rotten food. The last entry said "We got another Macha, will attune tomorrow." Then they went back down to check the cells and found an isolated room in one of them. After looking through crates (and almost eating 3 year old shit and piss) they found a diary/journal about a man named Myran Nolt. He started off fine but his writings got worst and worst as time went on. The last entry for him said "I got a new Saux Stone today." They then left the cave and went back to Sofmyre city. They visited Fajra to ask about Myran because Branwen used to know of him a bit. She said he hasn't been seen in a while and his father worried about him, but now he's dead. No one has been to his old house since then. There have been a couple of rumors about strange sounds sometimes coming from that area. They took a short rest, went to see some fireworks in the market square, then went to go investigate Myran's old house/shack. Fulcrum found a hidden basement under the rug and they all went inside. They found a man with a lot of demisent and they started to attack the party.
There was quite a skirmish, Branwen figured out it was likely Myran they were fighting. Branwen stopped attacking to try and convince him to stop as well. They eventually got him to stop and talking a bit. Turns out he was the one that killed the bandits in the cave while they were sleeping. He got all the Macha and left. They tried to convince him to simply stop everything, by guilt tripping him. Del succeeds in persuading him, he calms down and tells them a lot of things. He said that he'd been experimenting on himself and the Demisent to prove his isn't a Macha. They talked about trauma together (Myran's trauma) and he eventually relinquished his Saux Stones, and his Sent named Dol. They told him to get professional help and he went on his way somewhere. Branwen went around the room to inspect it and took the documents that Myran had about the experiments.
They went back home, had a good rest and then headed towards the Pale Druids guild to get Fulcrums armor repaired. They met Hugo, he did a great show with his Kalimbas and then he was challenged by Hagen Kellsmush on his 14 string guitar. He beat him pretty handily, and said that it wasn't the last time he's going to see him. The party were impressed and they talked a good while. Eventually Hugo being curious about the Pale Druids, decided to tag along and the party hired him as a type of consultant for their travels. They went to the cat sanctuary, then to the Pale Druids guild. Branwen got reprimanded for not doing her paperwork and had to do it there. She, with Hugo went to her small office and started writing. Fulcrum and Del stayed in the main room. fulcrum started feeling vibes from one of the pouches and asked Gret about it. Gret thought there might be something wrong and inspected Fulcrum for a bit and made his vibing go away. Fulcrum searched for the pouch, but couldn't find it and Gret decided to give him a more thourough check in a different room. Once everything was done, Fulcrum seemed fine, and he bought some more Capri-Blood Juices. They all left for the Macha artisans. They found a single one working in the workshop. They asked to get Dol's Saux Stone fixed and after waiting an hour it was a success. Del asked the artisan to keep it off the record since he didn't want it to be tarnished. He agreed, but still needed to get paid somehow for the work. The forked over 100GC and then left. They went back to Branwen's apartment and asked Dol what she wanted to do. She didn't want to go to Farja, so she decided to be with Hugo for now. They attuned together, and now Dol belongs to Hugo. They went their separate ways, Hugo going to his apartment with Dol, and the other three going to the Silverleaf army general affairs building. Hugo told Dol what she could do in the apartment and then left. The other three got the reward for the quest, falsified a report to say that they couldn't catch Myran, omitting Dol entirely, and that Fulcrum didn't kill any Demisent. Hugo arrived in the building, he and Del filled out a report to officially sign him on to being a mercenary that works for the Silverleaf Army. Then they went to the festival market square and met Fajra, who asked Branwen how her magic was coming along. She checked, and then left since she was doing errands. Del wanted to try a sugar coated peach, and then saw Vala and Lyth talking. He went over to them, and Vala asked how his search for his oath is going and his deity in general. After that, Lyth also asked him to possibly get his party to come to training (or train other recruits) because she wants to see how their skills have been coming along, especially now since they got a new member.
