Dragonborn

Dragonborn are elemental, scaly humanoids, the true sons and daughters of dragons. They claim direct descent from Dragons, and were created by the Draconic gods, notably when Tiamat tricked her brother Bahamut into impregnating her in the early years of the universe.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dragonborn are heavily-built humanoids with the normal morphological features, two legs, two arms, and a single head. They descend from Dragons and thereby are covered with scales of a certain colour, whether it be chromatic or metallic in hue. These scales along with their blood provide them with resistances to various elements pertaining to their ancestry. Additionally, they have an extra organ near the liver and spleen, called a Verswaeth. This organ allows them to use their Breath Weapon racial feature.

Genetics and Reproduction

Dragonborn bear children through laying eggs. The laying itself occurs about 1 month after intercourse, and the average healthy infant remains in its egg for up to 3 months afterward. The eggs are generally indistinguishable from each other solely based upon looks, but they often feel or smell very different. For example, a Red Dragonborn's egg may give a human a first degree burn upon touching it, or a Green Dragonborn's egg may smell putrid up close.

Growth Rate & Stages

Dragonborn mature similarly to humans, around the age of 15. Up until this point, they are completely infertile. They become elderly around 65 years of age and live no longer than a century.

Ecology and Habitats

Each Dragonborn subrace is fit for a different type of land, but a temperate climate can suffice for any of them. The tropics are too hot for those more cold-aligned Dragonborn, and the frozen northern wastes are too chilly for those warm-aligned ones.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Dragonborn are strictly carnivorous. They need meat to survive. Most can stomach vegetables, but they gain almost no nutrition from such foods.

Biological Cycle

Dragonborn occasionally shed their scales. These scales generally last anywhere from 5 to 10 years. Once a Dragonborn has lost a scale, another regrows in its place within 3 weeks.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Dragonborn are distributed across many of the elemental and material planes. However, the largest single concentration of them is in Lospiri, specifically their home country of Bahamuti'il, or Draconia.

Average Intelligence

The average Dragonborn aren't too intelligent or wise, but they tend to be a bit tricky or sweet.

Gender Ideals

There is a very small distinction between the genders in Draconic society, as females are physically as strong as males in many cases. Females are seen as wiser, and their main societal purposes consist of protecting the household, diplomats, and raising children. Males are seen as less valuable than females, but they are not taken granted for. Males generally perform in manual labour, infrastructure upkeep, and as merchants and farmers. It is common to see many female warriors in Draconic armies.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Dragonborn speak a dialect of Draconic. Though it is younger than that of true Dragons, their dialect has become the standard in modern Lospiri.
