Luxverse

In the 6th century BC a miraculous stone was discovered in ancient Bactria, one that harnessed the power of the sun and possessed many powers. After remaining hidden for centuries, a group of misguised Romans turned these powers against their own people, and only the Persians managed to restore order. It changed the world beyond recognition. Lux had been unleashed.   Now, in what would be our 15th century AD, humanity has built an advanced civilization based on lux and its power. It reaches its hand out to other planets, traverses the void of space, and explores the nature of the cosmos itself. But humanity has not entirely left its past behind.   Many nations have now become mighty on the back of lux technology, and control over lux production has become an everpresent source of conflict between them. And where one substance rules, there will be humans dangerous or foolhardy enough to try anything to get their hands on more.   Neither is lux entirely used for benign purposes; its destructive power, for those who choose to wield it, is terrifying to behold. But, for better or worse, it and humanity are now intertwined, and this is the future that the human race has built for itself. This is the world of lux.
