Njola

Njola is a cold land that is mostly inhabited by snow elves. It also happens to be the largest country in Lumous.

Demographics

Njola is mostly filled with snow elves and that reflects in the city structure. After all, it's a cold land and not many species can survive living there unless they were built for it, like the snow elves. The snow elves are usually pale and have lighter hair and eyes, but quite obviously not all of them are this way.

Government

Njola is run by an emperor, Vlakyl Slavak and works off of an emperical system.

Defences

Njola has a grand wall surrounding it with competent archers for a guard.

Industry & Trade

Njola is famous for it's 'Glass Ice', which is a specially crafted type of ice made in Njola that acts like unbreakable glass and looks and feels like ice, cool to the touch. It's used for creating beautiful sculptures and architectural accents, and is quite expensive. Since Njola is cold for a majority of the year, it's crop variety is rather limited, and so grain is a rather important import. Njola also trades furs and pine wood, because why not?

History

Njola used to be the home of the fairies. After the Faerie Farewell, the country's winters increased in length and severity although the snow elves are able to handle it. Rumor has it that the snow elves are actually descendants of fairies, but not many believe that since there's no concrete evidence and in contemporary times, not many people believe in the fairies anymore.

Tourism

Tourists visit Njola to see the grand architecture, the beautiful glass ice works and the scenic environment. They come to see the sledding competitions and would probably stay in the city's local inn.  Njola has two major celebrations, Spring's Coming and Winter's Eve. Spring's Coming takes place at the beginning of spring (duh) and is a colorful festival with lot's of garlands being hung up and the blooming of the flowers. The adults hide trinkets around towns for the children to find and it's a generally lively and fun festival. They also throw grain to the snow hares so that's there! Winter's Eve takes place in the second week of winter. It's a time when snow elves exchange gifts and stories with their friends and family, the people gather round a blazing fire in the middle of the town and dance and eat, and at night they observe the Aurora Lights. It's again, not something you would want to miss.

Architecture

Njola is known for it's vaulted ceilings and tall windows, it's inhabitants tend to like the brightness of the light and snow and the feeling of grandness and space. The wealthier nobility tend to have rich furs and warm colors adorning the interior of their homes, while the more common folk tend to use skins and warm welcoming fires. Njolan folk also tend to have clear glass ceilings and they decorate their homes with glass ice.

Geography

Njola may look like a cold desolate land, considering that it snows for 9 out 12 months but the lands have a beautiful clear feel to them. In the spring months, the place is lively with color and is in general quite a scenic country!
