They Who Walked Before

Our ancient Fathers and Mothers lived in harmony with the Land and the Sea, the Sky and the Stars. While others built their cities and their machines, built their bastions of corruption, we called to them to return to the Path but they did not heed us and led us all to Ruin. That is where you come from, Stoval. You were doomed by your blood!   Our homeland may be lost, Shattered into a hundred-hundred pieces, sunk beneath the Sea, and swallowed up by the World, but still we remember the lessons learned in the times of ancient Twilight, when we took our first steps. We remember, because They Who Walked Before still walk even today...if only you would listen.   -Tezxhuatl, before beheading General Stoval of Penarth at the Battle of The Black Crag, the 4th Age

Holy Books & Codes

Those who Walk the Path each carry a precious item of their faith that is crafted throughout their lives, grows and changes as they learn the old lessons from their Ancestors, called a Soul Codex. The people of Chikowe where the faith is mostly centered do not have books to keep their tales, but rather build elaborate dream-catcher like works, with the beads, knots, and other decorations added acting as the equivalent of a written language. Those who have adapted the practice and Walk the Path elsewhere in the world have mostly continued this tradition as well. Even mundane things may be recorded in one's Soul Codex, lessons learned from one's ancestors about the best way to glaze a pot, harvest poison from the dart frogs, or how much grain the tribe needs to make it through hard times.
