The Unchained

I know the World Crystal was Shattered at the start of it all, Mara, but I'm telling you I felt its Light wash over me. Through me. The Crystal surged in my hand, not as it had before on all those past adventures, that steady, reliable brown chunk you always said looked like a starfish. Would you like to go see the starfish? We can go any time you like.   The Crystal though, it blazed with the all the colours of the rings, and I finally Understood my Place in Things. The World Crystal is still watching over us, and it Chose me, Mara. Funny, that, don't you think? I was just a farmer, until the Orcs came and they...and they...   Oh no, they killed you Mara! But you're here now, my precious darling, my beautiful little girl. Don't worry, Papa isn't going to let those pirates hurt you ever again. Why are you crying? Mara, don't be afraid of the Light! Mara, my child, don't look away...

Divine Domains

Any, typically the choice is very symbolic and ties directly to what the Champion stood for in life

Holy Books & Codes

The Unchained do not have any formal religious books or scriptures, but each follows a code of conduct and swears a solemn oath to represent the Crystal Champions that ascended to divine levels, empowered by the Light of the World Crystal.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Followers of The Unchained usually bear holy symbols or other representations of some significance of the Chamapion's mortal life.

Tenets of Faith

The Unchained eschew the practice of worshiping gods, elementals, demons, devils, or other extraplanar entities in favour of attempting to follow in the footsteps of the greatest mortals in History. An elite few have wielded some of the most powerful Crystals the world has ever known, shifted events in such a way as to forever imprint themselves upon History, and to be graced by the Light of the World Crystal it is said to ascend to godhood. How the final part is to happen is unclear, for the World Crystal itself was Shattered to create the world, but nevertheless the following characters each started their lives as mortal and now occupy places of varying strength, ranging from demigods on up.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Tomman Porsal (Lesser Deity)- A human priest of healing, a humble young man with a terrible stutter, he was an adventurer in the 2nd Age. Cursed by the cruel gods and their twisted sense of humour with an excess of beauty, he was forced to hide his face beneath an ugly helm to avoid blinding others or enraging them with lust or jealousy. He was known to fight with a Crystal shaped into a staff, and to offer healing to any who needed it, whether friend or foe. When he and his party fought the Demon Lord Mixx'vizanalor, Tomman's selfless sacrifice of his own life banished the fiend back to the Abyss, and instead ascended him to godhood. His followers still offer free healing to any and all to this day, humbly covering their faces and swearing oaths of patience, endurance, charity, and poverty, and make for some of the best teachers of the languages of the world. He is often attributed to be the first to have his mortal chains broken by the blessing of the Light of the World Crystal. Preferred Domain: Life.   Jarii Laan (Intermediate Deity)- Another human that ascended, Jarii was a farmgirl that became a paladin of an ancient god of the 2nd Age. She and her beloved, a priestess named Yovanda, traveled far across the Gold Sea and were the first humans to make contact with the elves. So impressed were the elves by the two women that they invited them to stay, marking them the first Friends of the Forest as well. When the Forest came under assault by dragonkind soon after, however, Jarii stood alone to give Yovanda time to get an elven village and its people to safety, against the Great Red Wyrm, Bealzemelous. Her Crystal Shield turned back the dragon's breath upon itself, and the beast burned. Her followers include many paladins today, as well as many women too, but all are welcome to walk in the footsteps of Jarii Laan by being a shield for the weak against the strong, for never striking a blow in anger or for revenge, and by acting as diplomats and mediators in conflicts between different peoples. Preferred Domain: Protection.   Quiltar Mizzruin (Demigod)- An odd figure among the list of the Unchained, Quiltar Mizzruin was a drow boy from the time of the War of the Veil . Thought to be offered up as a sacrifice by his family to devils for a quick advancement in power and influence, he was saved by a mysterious figure that lurked in the shadows above the world and sent a raven to whisper her icy wishes in his ear. Perched on his other shoulder was another raven, an imp in disguise, whispering the wishes of the Hells that hadn't quite let him go. Quite an odd fellow, understandably, he claimed to be an adventurer and explorer, but was understood by many to be quite the nuisance when he passed through. When the War reached its climax, Quiltar was there at the final moment when the Goddess of Night unleashed her plan to allow Entropy into Lorinian, and through trickery of his ravens and the trickery of his Friend, a purple Crystal shaped like a person - sort of - helped to stop the mad scheme from rushing the end of the world. His followers have a special affinity for birds, especially ravens, and for seeing the world through the eyes of a child...or madmen. They sometimes serve as guides as well across the planes, particularly the Nine Hells. Preferred Domain: Trickery   Bregor The Undying (Intermediate Deity)- A dwarven necromancer that betrayed his allies against the forces of Chaos at the Fall of Eastglen . Understandably, he is a highly controversial figure, but nevertheless though he had once served the Enemy and turned his back on Life, Bregor came to understand the error of his ways through the patient and ceaseless efforts of his blue Crystal crown, a powerful artifact called the Coronal Forge. Eventually, Bregor seized control of a vast amount of the undead forces that now rule Eastglen and turned them against themselves before carving a bloody path strewn with zombie corpses and bits of skeleton bone in his wake as he ascended. His followers choose to use necromancy for the good of the world, even if the world would rather see them as an ally to Entropy. Good and neutral necromancers will find an understanding fellowship, but also a strict structure of self-policing their own membership for any that stray to the Enemy. Preferred Domain: Death or Grave   Skeetosh Rekmoaor (Lesser Deity)- Once, this kobold engineer was famous for his useful designs in the early days of the 2nd Age. Wonderful inventions we benefit from today such as indoor plumbing, elevators, the science of baking bread, and alchemy are all attributed to Skeetosh, a member of one of the first tribes of kobolds to settle in modern-day Trakine. Impressing the gnomish, dwarvish, and human craftsmasters so much, they offered him a small Crystal of jagged yellow, and asked him what he made of the mystery of these strange and dangerous Crystals. Skeetosh spent months in study and experiments before he eventually bonded with it, and began to share the secrets of electricity. Of course, he was thousands of years ahead of his time, and none of them made any sense of the strange scientific theories the kobold responded with. He is, however, also attributed for the understanding people have that lightning and the electricity we see in slight shocks and other forms are alike. Eventually, Skeetosh apparently had given so much to the early peoples, lost without their gods at their side and fighting their first own brutal and independent wars of their own, and set them generally on the path of advancement barring a few hiccups and setbacks along the way, and the World Crystal blessed him. Kobolds the world over revere him, and will go on at length about all the things Skeetosh is supposedly responsible for, while his followers try to emulate the great engineer by spreading technology and offering their impressive crafting skills to those in need. He enjoys a large underground-following in Trakine, despite the ban on open worship. Preferred Domain: Forge   Eristvaknoamor The Gold (Greater Deity)- The great and powerful dragon Eristvaknoamor ascended during the chaotic holy wars of the 3rd Age. Known for having advised and counseled countless rulers of many lands throughout the eons, for his fairness towards others, and for his swift and frightening sense of justice, the gold dragon eventually gave up on trying to keep the peace in Lorinian. Instead, Eristvaknoamor focused his efforts and great will towards at last giving dragonkind a god of their own. The great wyrm headed deep into the wastes, and his followers tell the tale of how the dragon wrestled with a True Crystal of unimaginable majesty and power that waits in the center of the Bittercrystal Wastes, how his will battled the Crystal's for ten days and ten nights until he convince the True Crystal of the plight of dragonkind on Lorinian. Ascended, now he focuses his powers on an attempt to unite all the various factions and colours of dragonkind under his rule. Preferred Domains: Arcana, Protection or Unity
