The Council of All

Rather than one actual faith, religion, or cult, The Council of All was an assembly of mortal races and groups of various regional and isolated faiths, some ancient, some new in The 4th Age , that came together to discuss what to do in the wake of the gods' crimes.   Putting themselves in judgement over the gods themselves, the Council of All was a well-intentioned effort of mortal peoples to discuss and bring their grievances to the numerous gods and powers that had fought for dominance over Lorinian since the Crystallization, and had led the world to the horror of suspension and paused history before the 4th Age.   The greatest representatives from thousands of faiths from the world over, from surviving communities across the Gold Sea, and from beyond the Bittercrystal Wastes came representatives of Higashitate and other lands as yet unknown. Venninite priests and monks served as guards and a neutral party, as the Elements were blameless, but mostly watched the various Wizard Orders that also served as neutral parties to keep the peace and remind everyone who the ultimate foe was. Representatives of the Enemy attended, Chaos' clerics and demons standing gleefully during the amnesty when none could touch them, but even they had some choice words for the leaders of the Abyss, even if none dared speak against Chaos directly. The Hells sent their own diplomats, infernal clerics with devils hovering at their sides, and registered a formal complaint against all the proceedings. So many different groups, Chikowe totem warriors that spoke for entire lineages of ancestors, elvish dignitaries haughty and imperious even as they bemoaned the gods' acts, kobold missionaries, backwoods witches, warlocks that made pacts with powers that kept their names hidden but were no less blameless as the others. They met at the Lonely Tower, and there began the long task of organizing so many competing views and faiths, demands and slights, to craft a message to the gods. That message was translated into all the tongues of the world, sent to all corners, clerics and priests read it to their congregations, which reacted with both horror and joy to think the gods would heed them. It took The Council of All seven years to craft the message, a simple statement that shocked the gods with its temerity and daring.   "The Peoples of Lorinian, of Soll and of Ylaros The Shattered, of the Gold Sea, of Lands Beyond The Wastes, of the Oceans of Ice, of the Forest, of the Underdark, speak with one voice in this final plea, and final warning. You may have shaped us, formed our Souls of the Shattered remains of the World Crystal. You may claim to hold Fate over our Souls after death as well, but we are no longer just your children. We stand on our own, despite your arrogance, and despite your wars. For Three Ages we have paid the price of your jealousy and rage in the blood of our children. We have had an Age stolen from us. No more. If the gods do not agree to a ceasefire, the Fourth Age will be known as when your children return to the Twin Moons, when we will pour into the Abyss and into the Hells, and this time it will be you that suffer the consequences of war. War you have taught us how to fight all-too-well. The 4th Age is hereby proclaimed to be an era of peace-among-gods. Any that break the peace will see their Power broken."   Lorinian is a highly balankanized and varied world when it comes to the gods and powers that people worship, or their practices of faith and spirituality. Some gods arose from the World Crystal, while others arrived from Elsewhere at various times throughout the Ages. It can easily fit your favourite pantheon or religion from any other D&D setting or even from real life, as the world has had contact with other worlds at certain points as well. Any god that finds themselves represented in Lorinian come to understand the need to stand together against The Shattered Pantheon , for if powers of Chaos and Entropy are left unchecked, the Shattering can spread to other worlds, and even the divine and fiendish planes of existence, the elemental, the astral, the ethereal, the shadow realms, all locked away and never able to truly exist again.

Holy Books & Codes

The Council of All, while having served its purpose, is still spoken of as a loose collection of all the various small devotions to individual minor gods, ancestor worship, powerful animal spirits, extraplanar powers, and other faith groups, so the books and codes are nearly as numerous as they. Have you come up with some fun ideas for a custom faith you've designed for your religion?

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Again, all sorts of symbols and sigils might turn up. If you're a fan of a god from the Forgotten Realms, go for it! If there's a Greyhawk deity you've always wanted to give a whirl, they could have found the Great Crystal Sphere that contains the world of Lorinian.

Tenets of Faith

Due to the nature of the battles between the gods, eons of war that had broken the Twin Moons, caused the rings, was responsible for Crystalfall and the warping of the world, Shattering entire kingdoms and races, there is a lot of mistrust between the mortals of Lorinian and many of the gods. Some faiths may claim this or that god didn't take part, or wasn't as bad as some other one was, and rebellions and schisms in faiths all over the world were triggered at the start of the 4th Age.   For most faiths, the 4th Age is almost as much a time of upheaval as Ages past have been. Old concepts and truths are being re-examined, mortals contemplate their relationship to their deities, and the whole world has been holding its collective breath these last few years as they await any sign of the gods' response to the message. In the meantime, power in churches and temples throughout Lorinian in all the small and varied pockets of so many religions is shifting.   New gods have arrived since the 4th Age began as well, as they always do, and new temples send a representative once a year to the Lonely Tower to meet and discuss matters of religious importance great enough to concern the entire world. So far, an uneasy peace has held among most of the mortal religions, but true change and real reform may not be possible without revolution in some places.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

The Council of All hopes to be a fair but firm voice for the Peoples of Lorinian to the gods and entities that struggle for dominance here. So too does the worldly council hope to serve as a form of extra-governmental and international body to discuss matters of faith in a neutral setting, to mediate disagreements, and to perhaps help prevent the next religious crusade before it begins.
