Clerics

Career

Qualifications

To begin as a Miko, one must first have their cantripy. This is an understanding and connection to their domain on a spiritual level.

Career Progression

A cleric begins as a Miko, a shrine maiden. At this stage, they learn the ways of their domain and gain basic spells. [In play this is a level 1 cleric] from here they progress through a hierarchy among their local shrine, gaining more responsibilities, spells, and monetary rewards as they go. The highest in the shrine (the Grand Cleric) is either appointed by the previous or their saint after a personal meeting.

Perception

Purpose

Clerics keep people safe by maintaining relations with the saints of their particular domain, as well as providing services that their domains would cover (a death domain providing last rites, an ocean/travel domain providing safe passage.) They are also in charge of taking care of shrines and their relics. This involves cleaning, providing sacrifices, communing, and managing the money of the shrines.

Social Status

Many people view being a Cleric as a way of getting out of poverty as their needs will be provided for by the temple. There is much respect for them, in some places even prompting bows where ever they go. They are considered to be much more refined and sophisticated than their exorcist brothers.

Operations

Workplace

Traditional shrines are small wooden complexes that are used to hold ceremonies to appease various saints and hold relics. In many big cities or in richer areas, there are larger complexes made of stone, almost akin to that of castles and palaces.

Provided Services

Clerics are not exorcists and do not necessarily fight monsters. While they can, they tend to be more involved with gathering the favor of saints and spirits to give luck and fortune to those who need it. In many small villages a cleric may also provide education and teach literacy to the children.
