The Rhynox

Best of the Beastmen

Intelligent, massive, strong, and stalwart, there are few peoples of the world one could depend on more. They are quick and decisive in a crisis, but slow and steady in most aspects of life. They are a people who prefer to stop and sniff the flowers as they go. However, when their interests are raised, they can be borderline obsessive and single-minded in their pursuits. Quick to anger and slow to forget, it is their strong cultural moral center that keeps their volatile tempers from running away with them.

D&D 5e

  • Ability Score Modifiers: The Rhynox are traditionally strong and wise. They have +1 Strength, and +2 Wisdom OR choose one of (a) Any +2, any other +1 or (b) Any +1, any other +1, any other +1.
  • Size: The Rhynox are Medium creatures.
  • Base Speed: 30 Feet
  • Adrenaline Rush: You can take the Dash Action as a Bonus Action. When you do so, you gain a number of Temporary Hit Points equal to your Proficiency Bonus. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.
  • Trance: Rhynox don't need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is "trance.") While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.
  • Powerful Build: You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.
  • Horn Attack: Your ivory horn is a natural weapon, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with it, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
  • Natural Armour: You have thick, leathery skin. When you aren't wearing armor, your AC is 12 + your Constitution modifier. You can use your natural armor to determine your AC if the armor you wear would leave you with a lower AC. A shield's benefits apply as normal while you use your natural armor.
  • Languages: You begin play speaking, reading, and writing Common and one language in which you were raised, which for the Rhynox is typically Izinyo. Rhynox may, if desired, choose one bonus language that you and your DM agree is appropriate.
