The Efreeti

Children of the Desert Sun

The Efreeti are a mysterious people who dwell only in the inhospitable deserts north of Khayu. Solitary by nature, each Efreeti seek out lonesome rocky peaks where they can bathe in the warmth of the sun's radiance, be nourished by it, and watch world go by around them. They come together only once a decade in a months long mystical rite to worship the sun and to pair off as mates. Adventurous in their youth, many Efreeti leave their parents to explore the wider world around them and can often be found guiding lost travelers through the desert.

Some, like the Imperium Dwarves, don’t believe the Efreeti exist at all while others, such as the superstitious Khayan desert dwellers, worship them as the living, divine essence of the Sun God.

  • Ability Score Modifiers: +2 Constitution, +1 Charisma. OR choose one of (a) Any +2, any other +1 or (b) Any +1, any other +1, any other +1.
  • Size: Your size is medium.
  • Speed: 30 Feet
  • Darkvision: You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. Your inner flame makes your darkvision unusual: everything you see in darkness is in a flickering shade of red.
  • Desert Mirage: You can cast Detect Magic and Disguise Self with this trait. Once you cast either spell, you can't cast it again with this trait until you finish a short or long rest. Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells when you cast them with this trait (choose when you select this race).
  • Inner Flame: You have resistance to Fire damage.
  • Wildfire Heart: You can add your proficiency bonus to your initiative rolls.
  • Languages: You begin play speaking, reading, and writing Common and one language in which you were raised, which for the Efreeti is typically Kush. Efreeti may, if desired, choose one bonus language that you and your DM agree is appropriate.

STANDARD RACIAL TRAITS
  • Ability Score Modifiers: The Efreeti are passionate and quick, but impetuous and destructive. They gain +2 Dexterity, -2 Wisdom, and +2 Charisma.
  • Size: The Efreeti are Medium creatures.
  • Type: The Efreeti are Outsiders with the Native subtype.
  • Base Speed: 30 Feet
  • Languages: The Efreeti begin play speaking Kush. Efreeti with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following: Ahuran, Hieratic, Iwisan, Izinyo, Otchipwe, and Vulcanic.
  • Darkvision: Dwarves can see perfectly in the dark up to 60 feet.
  • Desert Mirage: Efreeti thrive in the deserts of the world, where their keen instincts and resistance to heat give them a huge edge over their competitors. Those with this trait gain a +2 racial bonus on Stealth checks in desert environments and on saves to resist starvation and thirst.
  • Fire Affinity: Efreeti sorcerers with the elemental (fire) bloodline treat their Charisma score as 2 points higher for all sorcerer spells and class abilities. Efreeti spellcasters with the Fire domain use their domain powers and spells at +1 caster level.
  • Wildfire Heart: Efreeti are as swift and dangerous as a blazing wildfire. They gain a +4 racial bonus on initiative checks.
