European Cold War starts
Political event
Europe is split between three mutually hostile political blocs.
To counter the threat of the remaining right-wing threat on the continent, New European Union is formed. Initial members include the United Republic of Britain, Republic of Spain and both Scandinavian countries, all of them staunchly socialist - but in a slightly different ways. Greece joins soon after.
This causes the Germany and France get closer together, their ideologies (while not 'fascist' per se) close enough to allow for the creation of Iron Pact.
The third side to emerge is the Visehrad Alliance, the alliance of remaining democracies (and 'gentle' authoritarian regimes) of Europe, with Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Ukraine, Belarus and the Baltic States. The three-side cold war grips Europe.
