Military action

The decades long political and military build-up and a conflict over Kashmir finally escalates into an open war between India and Pakistan. Unfortunately, the result of this war is an atomic exchange that breaks both participating countries.

Years of tensions finally erupt into an open warfare, due to combination of worldwide political instability and Chinese support for Pakistan. Kashmir War is waged for several years mostly due to it being strictly conventional.   India seemed to be winning the war, when due to a combination of factors and events the war ended with a limited nuclear exchange between India and Pakistan. The world is obviously shocked. However, little can be done. Death toll is in high millions, and the nuclear fallout (and it's sideeffects) is going to plague the region for decades, inhibiting its growth.
