The Age of Cerebus

  The old Era of the Three Moons--in which humans, elves, and dwarves each had a kingdom of their own has only recently come to an end with the formation of the Cerebus government. Cerebus is a unity government of the three kingdoms formed when Vyxtheru, the Void Dragon emerged from the Rift in the Western Void about 15 years ago and threatened elves, dwarves, and men alike.   In forming the unity government--the three-headed dog, CEREBUS, representing the elf, dwarf and human, outlawed slavery and created the first power-sharing aristocracy. It was only about fifteen years ago that Vyxtheru was defeated by the combined forces of the major races.   Cerebus is currently ruled by the dwarven woman, Ragund Gimbar and many resent her rule--perhaps because they prefer a man in power.   However, many other problems remain. While races not native to each of the three major kingdoms have formal legal equality, the truth is far more complicated. Elves in human kingdoms are relegated to jobs as servers, entertainers, and employed in difficult jobs in the wilderness. Dwarves are spat upon and used to mine Calidium, humans in foreign kingdoms are farmers and servants. While slavery is illegal, poor working conditions exist everywhere.   Shortly after the defeat of Vyxtheru, elves, humans, and dwarves created independence factions, hoping for a return to the old ways. Many poor from across the kingdoms have banded together, in the Communitas movement claiming that whoever rules is irrelevant--the rich always oppress the poor. Non-major races each eek out a living on the margins of society and in the Voidlands, many hoping solidify autonomous communities of their own.   And in all this, the threat of civil war looms. But perhaps even that is not the greatest threat of all. For rumors persist of another rift that has opened to another time or is it another world? A rift not unlike the one that brough Vyxtheru into the world. Rumors of mind control, madness, and eldritch beings set on devouring the living. Could these be the fears of a world on edge? Or is it the coming of the Doombringer as foretold by the Blind Seer, Dwemon Gur himself?
