The Founding

The Founding (28 Nostyne) is a holiday observed throughout the Far Peninsula that celebrates the signing of the Far Treaty and the creation of the Key. How exactly it is celebrated depends on the region and country, with celebrations become greater as they near the Key.

History

This tradition began in 1615, one year after the signing of the Far Treaty signifying the alliance between Vrollkeun and Wor. It was mainly a Wors holiday at first, but Vrollkins adopted it in 1672 with some variations upon the tradition. After the Second Far Treaty in 2414, Olthicans adopted the holiday as well.

Execution

Though each country has different traditions, gift exchange is common throughout. Normally, only one item is given to each recipient. It is considered rude to not give reciprocally, and, by extension, to give a gift to someone without discussing it beforehand. Because of the gift giving, the Key holds a week-long crafts fare in its streets that culminates on 27 Nostyne and includes craftsmen from all across Linape. Olthicans have the simplest Founding traditions, with everyone gathering with family and friends for good meals and gift exchanges. Some families like to serve meals similar to those served at Mid-Nostyne (i.e., roasted vegetables and pork), but this is not a given and is mostly dependent on how much the family likes that meal and how affordable it is for them. The Wors, meanwhile, go all out on the Founding. There is dancing, games, and feasts in the streets of every Wor town with a resident noble, with the noble doing the funding. Every Wor travels to be at their overlords' Founding Fest. Additionally, books, pamphlets, and other paper products are traditionally give as Wor Founding gifts. The Vrollkin fast from dawn until dusk on Founding, and traditionally stand in the street exchanging gifts as the sun sets before returning home to break their fast with bread and honey, mulled wine, and winter berries in cream. Some Vrollkin far from the Key do not celebrate Founding at all.
