Pieces of EIght, Session 5: Disappearances in Town

General Summary

The Pieces of Eight return to Saltmarsh, recieve a new mission, meet new allies, and notice a problematic pattern worsening.

Full Synopsis

The town council and the Pieces of Eight convened once again in the meeting room. The Pieces of Eight told the Town Council about the Lizardfolk, the Sea-Elf, and the weapons. The Town Council wants the party to go to Dunwater and figure out what the Lizardfolk are really up to, and they get to have the Sea Ghost to do it in.   Following the intital part of the meeting, the Pieces of Eight bring the living captives into the meeting to answer for their crimes. During this time, Ned accused Gellan Primewater, a member of the council. Primewater denied the accusations, but when the other members of the council activated Ned's Speaking Stone, Gellan's matching counterpart rang. With Gellan implicated in the crimes, James escorts them all towards jail. Klearic, meanwhile, returns to the docks with the others.   At the docks, Klearic and Zangrim attempt to help the Warforged Medic Doc with his malfunctioning mechanics. They reveal through conversation that they are about to go to Dunwater and deal with the Lizardfolk. Kleth, a Blue Dragonborn Storm Sorcerer, on the merchantile vessel is interested in their mission and joins them in interrogating the Lizardfolk back on the Sea Ghost.   During this interrogation Kleth was drawn in by the apparent plight of the Lizardfolk and vowed to help them get their weapons, going as far as to beg the town council to deliver them weapons, offering his own head on a silver platter as collateral. The town council hesitantly accepted this offer but the perilous consequences of such an offer had barely sunk in when James Wavebreaker was suddently awakened, on the edge of town, by the explosion of the town jail.   As he scrambled to a stand, James determined that they must’ve been attacked by the escaped pirate deck wizard. James sprinted back to town. The party converged with him, and determined all of their recent prisoners had escaped. Furthermore, someone had put all the guards and James to sleep. Before long the party realized these were not the first disappearances in Saltmarsh.   Zangrim encountered his younger twin brothers who were trying to find Zangrim's oldest brother, Yeros, who had gone missing. Skadarus Flaskjaw, a Dwarven miner and colleauge of Klearic's, went missing just after Klearic talked to him on the first night of the party's adventure.   A number of Zulynn and Mordecai’s friends were no longer in the town. James Wavebreaker’s first-mate was missing. Vencyne's close friend Jeb Shenker, brother of Kreb Shenker, was missing as well. In the confusion, Kleth who’d only been in Saltmarsh a few hours had already lost track of his 7 foot tall Warforged hybrid shipmate, Doc. Someone was claiming victims in Saltmarsh, victims close to the party. The Pieces of Eight would have to get to the bottom of this, just as soon as they returned from Dunwater.   James invited Zulynn to his shack to discuss the Glaive. No one yet knew that he held so many of the missing victims inside of his pact weapon. No one yet knew that the deck wizard never made it off the Sea Ghost, or that James dispatched the other prisoners and tricked them into believing a lie. Zulynn had no idea how much danger she was in as the Glaive whispered to James to kill his stepmother inside the small shack.   Luckily for her, the weapon's hold on James was broken for a moment. A sound came from outside. A sound that wasn't crabs. James investigated the noise and found Xolec, a strange sarcastic Vampire, chained up in the basement of a nearby shack. Xolec pleaded to be freed, promising information about the Scarlet Brotherhood.   James couldn't get wrapped up in anything else. He promised to return after the trip to Dunwater. Xolec was slightly displeased, but after spending so long chained up he was mostly just happy that anyone knew he was there at all.   The party rested for the night, leaving at dawn for Dunwater.
