Heist of the Elder's Vault Character Creation

Summary

Heist of the the Elder's Vault is a dungeon designed for 11th level characters. It contains sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and heist themes.

Character Creation

Join the Campaign

To begin creating a character for Heist of the Elder's Vault, click this link. Then click the blue "CREATE A CHARACTER" button. This will automatically add a new character to the Heist of the Elder's Vault campaign on D&D Beyond.

Adjust Settings

Start by making sure all sources are allowed.
Then make sure make sure hit point type is manual.
I'll leave the other settings up to your own descretion.

Select a Race

You are allowed to build absolutely any character you want in my games. However, the following races are encouraged since they mesh nicely with the spacefaring theme of the one-shot:
  • Astral Elf
  • Autognome
  • Giff
  • Gith
  • Hadozee
  • Harengon
  • Mycnoids
  • Plasmoids
  • Plaugeborn Mycnoids
  • Thri-kreen
  • Simic Hybrid
  • Vedalken
  • Warforged
Futhermore, if you would like to play a Sun Elf, Moon Elf, Space Clown, Moon Dwarf, Vampirate, or any race that doesn't exist on D&D Beyond, let me know and we will work out the finer details of how those races would work as a playable homebrew race.

Select a Class or Classes

You are allowed to select ANY class or subclass. But I do not recommend Blood Hunter. Blood Hunter is extremely complex and you will probably not be fully familarized with all of your class abilities before the session is finished.   Multiclassing is also complicated and also allowed, as long as you can explain the reason your character is both classes. If you are having trouble coming up with an explanation but really want to play a multiclassed character I can totally help you come up with the reasoning.   Once all of your classes are selected, and your total character level is 11, you can manage your hit points. Click the blue "MANAGE HP" button. We will be maxing hit die, meaning that you will enter "rolled HP" as if you rolled the highest number on every die.

Max HP Example

In the above example, the Warlock has 11 levels and uses a D8 for its hit die. That means the Warlock's maxed HP would be 11, multiplied by the biggest number possible on one hit die, 8. 11 multiplied by 8 is 88. That is the "rolled number" that D&D Beyond will ask for and once you input it D&D Beyond will automatically add the constitution bonus.

Assign Ability Scores

For the sake of simplicity and balance we will be using the standard array system. Each player will have a set of numbers (8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15) which they can then choose to assign to any of their ability scores.   If you really prefer a different generation method, that's totally fine. I'm mainly recomending this because it is faster and simpler.

Character Backgrounds

Each of the characters participating in the one-shot must be someone who will participate in a heist. This could be because they are an anthropologist, an archeologist, an astral drifter, a criminal, a failed merchant, or any of a million other reasons. Any background that doesn't clash with the character joining a team of contractors to raid an ancient vault for an anonymous client is acceptable for the purposes of this one-shot.   It may be easier to create a custom background if you have a certain background feature in mind. I will be open to almost any background feature as long as it makes sense for the character background you've written.

Equipment

You are allowed to choose basic starting equipment, a magical weapon, and magical armor. You are encouraged to reflavor weapons and armor to match the sci-fi setting.   You will all be allowed to buy several wonderous items before you leave on the Heist of the Elder's Vault. Do not worry about gold. It will be provided.
