Appendix N for Limoneyrs

Explanation

When Gary Gygax originally wrote Advanced Dungeons and Dragons he included a list of literary inspirations in an appendix called Appendix N. This has become a tradition in the tabletop gaming community.   I will will use this article to list all the media that inspired me or informed creative decisions during the creation of my game setting. I will work to organize it and appropriately link sources as it becomes bigger.

Ghosts of Saltmarsh

Much of my game setting is lifted from the Ghosts of Saltmarsh adventure module. This is because my game world began as a Ghosts of Saltmarsh campaign. Even though the orginal continuity and geography of my game world has been entirely rewritten, many of my players favorite NPCs are from the original starting town of Saltmarsh and its surrounding areas. For this reason, the Saltmarsh and its surrounding area remains a part of my game world, though it has many differences to its incarnation in the adventure module.

Greek Pantheon

Th       The Greek Myth of Erysichthon deeply inspired the lore of Vampires, Werewolves, and the Elder Elves. This element was introduced by Dale, Bela Rrostarr's PC, and it was a big piece of my earliest worldbuilding.   My adventure, The Horror of Elder Station, was deeply inspired by the The Transition of Juan Romero, The Color Out of Space and The Gates of Firestorm Peak.   The Gravebound was inspired by Everything, Everywhere, All at Once,Kang the Conquerer, Lovecraftian Horror, and the Flood (Halo).   Rotghouls were inspired by Ghouls (Fallout) and the Infected (Last of Us.)   The Order of Lycan's name was taken straight from the Blood Hunter subclass. Their operation and design was noticeably similar to the X-Men after hours of collaboration about their story with one of my players, Dale.   The Malevolent Wastes was inspired by the Fallout franchise.   Mold N Dew is obviously inspired by Mountain Dew.   The Kreb Shack is a reference to Joe's Crab Shack, and it's interiors are inspired by Wendy's, Captain D's, Long John Silver's, and other fast food restaurants.   Hunger King is reference to Burger King, and is inspired by King Erysichthon and buffet style restaurants.   Clownspace and Space Clowns were taken directly from their descriptions in Spelljammer: Adventures in Space, which were already clearly inspired by Insane Clown Posse, Killer Klowns from Outerspace, and IT. I have done as much as I can to add more to the lore of my Space Clowns taking inspiration from Mimes, Clowns, Jesters, The Joker (Batman), and Rakdos (Magic the Gathering). The names of the main Space Clown planet - Desolee - is a reference to Circque du Soleil. It's ringlings (a reference to the Ringling Brothers) are two ring worlds - B'arneem and B'ailey - are references to Barnum and Bailey.
