Dissidents

Dissidents is a broad term used to describe anyone in Licentia who has serious disagreements without it's run overall, or with a particular policy. Essentially all free societies have dissidents, but because Licentia started as an organization where everyone was more or less in agreement but suddenly took on an influx of random people from Southern California, the way it has handled and been affected by dissidents merits further study. Internal political discussion in Licentia has lead to the coining of this terminology, as the dividers of mainstream society that usually lead to political disagreement -- class, political party, etc -- do not apply or are applied different in a society like Licentia.   Dissidents vary widely on how organized they are. Some are just incredibly stubborn individuals, others have formed entire "parties" that support delegate candidates across neighborhoods.

Economic Dissidents

The most well-known economic dissidents are the members of the Gadsden neighborhood in Taqfleck. Gadsden is made up of people whose ideology could best be summarized as right-wing libertarian or capitalist.

Ideological Dissidents

There is some overlap between economic and ideological dissidents, but the label ideological is usually applied when the disagreement includes disagreement on "social" disagreements. For example, someone who thinks that children adopted by gay couples should be raised entirely by daycare or adopted by straight couples instead would be considered ideological dissidents. It includes social conservatism as the phrase is often used in mainstream politics, but also includes more extreme and third-way ideologies such as Strasserism. Depending on the ideology and how it is advocated, Licentia sometimes expels ideological dissidents if it deems them a threat to public safety, such as advocates of Nazism.

ZIMBYs

In spite of not being capitalist, Dallas Outskirts has faced intense disagreement on how best to reorganize in order to deal with its problems with sanitation and overcrowding. While most people agreed that a reorganization of slums holding tens of thousands of people was badly needed, when plans were drawn up, some people outright refused to move their shacks from places that had been rezoned or hate the fact that the reorganization would put them near the trailer park or whathaveyou. The whole situation had some elements of NIMBYism, leading to the coining of the phrase ZIMBY.
