Sinchavig Open

The Sinichavig Open is an annual sand building competition held on the northern shore of Lake Shew in honor of aedgean artist Ottar Sinichavig. The competition takes place over three days and includes contests for multiple skill levels as well as a street fair for spectators.

History

Ottar Sinichavig studied constructive Geonature under some of the most well-known contemporary aedgeans of his time and spent much of his life contributing to the construction of some of the most breath-taking and structurally sound structures in Domthe. He was quoted on many occasions saying that he sought to leave his mark on the world before he passed on. After surviving a heart attack, Sinichavig's philosophy changed entirely. Instead of seeking to leave a permanent mark on the world, he recognized the fleeting, temporary nature of the world itself.
Sinichavig began traveling Leland, building colossal structures out of sand wherever he went. Some were convoluted, multi-level buildings that temporarily supported the weight of visitors. Others were artistic in nature, sculptures both tall and wide. All succumbed to the elements within a few days of completion.
Following Sinichavig's death in 1192, fans gathered on the shores of Lake Shew where he had lived and built sand sculptures as a temporary memorial. The event received so much attention that the organizers chose to make it a yearly event. Each year the talent that was displayed improved upon the last until organizers decided to make it into a competition. In 1203 the first official sand building contest was held.

Competition

There are two main categories of competition: aggregant and non-aggregant. Within each category there are single and team competitions split between juvenile, amateur, and professional levels. Since 1243 there has been a theme for every competition.
