A dark cult serves a dark force, and is granted great power to do this force's bidding.

After the war, and the dawn of the new age, everything shifted. There was a since of unease among the people of Eternity. War was now a possibility, and a dark force was capable of pulling strings, and controlling those with power. While most completely avoided the thought, some would seek it out. These people wanted the same power as Kainox. While some looked for Kainox himself, some simply worshiped these beings, some looked for dark artifacts, like Kainox's sword. However, some went to the dead lands directly. The vast majority of those who did so met the same fate the stories say. Some did return, they were not the same. Some were immortal like Kainox, others were granted power unlike anything else. The magic was not arcane, it was not divine, it was something far darker.   Within the next year, all who worshiped the Eternals gathered, and formed their underground cult; Children of the Eternals. Just like Kainox, this cult was given the task of ending all life on Eternity. However, they had to do so efficiently. They couldn't just kill anyone on the street. They needed a system. Sometimes they'd launch large scale attacks, sometimes they'd drag their victims to their underground hellscapes, never to be seen again. They had stations everywhere, from the peaks of Midor, to the valleys of Fafnia. Notable members include, Selas Netumbe, Draconin warlock, and council member of Dogarus during Sprizen's time. Or Duroth Valem, dwarven heretic of Midor.   Everyone had a name for those who abandon their gods to serve the Eternals. Heodar calls them Scorn. Midor calls them heretic, Dogarus, and Fafnia call them Krauk-Saud, the halfling north calls them blackguard. The elven nation calls them Proditors, and the orcs call them leader. For centuries this cult would live, and thrive in the shadows of Eternity. They'd pray on the weak, and corrupt the strong.
