Use of Arcane Magic

The use of Arcane Magic is spread far, and wide throughout Eternity. Though the casters' understanding of arcane magic is great enough to use it, much of it still lives in mystery. Its use is divided into three categories, being Natural, Ethereal, and Living.   Natural magic is all arcane magic that exists in the Natural realm. As such use of Natural magic requires natural physical components, or ingredients. Examples of these physical components include Theosite, which can be used to focus most spells. Hellroot can be used to create spells of fire. An Earthstone can be used to focus spells using acids. There are countless items that are used to create, or focus spells. Components that come from plants, or things that can otherwise decay are consumed while casting. However, components of metal, stone, or crystal are not. These unconsumable focus materials are required to enchant weapons and armor, or imbue them with magical abilities.   Ethereal magic is magic from a small realm between the physical, and divine realms. This realm is full of magic that has no form. This formless magic is perfect for casting. Ethereal magic casting doesn't require the physical components that Natural magic casting does, but instead is cast by giving this formless magic the form of the spell that is cast. However, it is much harder to cast using this form of magic, and it will dissipate quickly. Since it is pulled from another realm, it can also be unpredictable. The larger the spell, the more unpredictable it can be, to the point of large spells having a completely inveresd effect.   Living magic is arcane magic that has manifested itself within a living sentient being. This could be a animal who has developed a magical ability, or even someone with magic within them. All living beings have magic within them. It is the very thing that gives them life. Living magic is the rarest in way of casters, but are also the most powerful. Aside from dragons, and animals that wield arcane power, Living magic casters are called sorcerers. Sorcerers do not need material components, nor do they need to reach into another realm to cast their spells. Their magic comes from a reservoir within them. Casting spells as a sorcerer pulls magic from this reservoir, and turns it into the magic that makes up the spell.   The reservoir refills over night, but if a sorcerer were to use more magic than this reservoir would permit, the spell feeds off the caster themselves instead of the magic within them. The size of this reservoir only grows over time, to a point. Eventually, the arcane power becomes too great for your current body to handle, and you will have a sort of magical runoff in the form of your favored use of the magic. Draconin however, have a method of expanding this reservoir beyond what any other humanoid being could have. This method is ascendance. When a draconin's arcane power grows to the point where their current body cannot hold it, the draconin takes one more step towards their draconic origan. Great dragon wings sprout from their backs. The wings allow the draconin's arcane magic reservoir to grow even more. This mechanism means draconin make for the most powerful sorcerers in Eternity.   Casting using arcane magic is never fully predictable. Sometimes, regardless of how well you focus the spell, or what form of magic you use, it may just decide that it doesn't wish to be used in that way. The way it chooses how it is used leads many to believe that it has sentience.
