Brimbarian Constructs

These enchanted machines make up the bulk of Brimbaria's industrial force. Owned only by the wealthy, though still a quite common sight in Brimbaria. While some know they have sentience, those that own them deny this, and force the machines to continue working.

History

Originally invented by Rathal Viralan for the purposes of providing assistance with larger projects. He used the same natural magic arcane strands that allow his previous innovations to function. He designed the machine with a thin body, exposed tubes, and a large, glowing orb for a "head." It was sufficient for his own purposes, and was kept to himself. The first construct he named Beaker. Beaker was destroyed in the same accident that killed Rathal. It was then, that other inventors found the plans for the original construct, and instructions as to how to focus the natural magic strands into the machine.   The construct was modified, and improved, with multiple variants. Newer models had covered the orb of magic with plates that resembled a face, making the newer design more 'comfortable' to observe. (for lack of a better way to put it) The machines were, and are only owned by either wealthy individuals. As use of the machine increased, and damage became a reoccurring problem, modifications were made to protect the constructs' delicate internal mechanisms. Metal plates are now placed over top of the mechanisms, and were shaped to give the machines a more human shape. Recently, the machines have been given a sort of "voice box" enabling speech. This has led people to believe the things to be sentient. While they are, owners of these constructs refuse to acknowledge this, as if they do so, they could lose their personal labor-force.   The most recent development regarding these machines, is how more successful criminal groups have acquired constructs of their own, and have influenced them to take lives. This has caused the Brimbarian government to take action, and has caused people to even further believe their sentience, demanding that owners of these machines acknowledge this as well.

Utility

They are used to complete all the tasks that real people do. Everything from completing arrands, to building large structures. Some, in the criminal underworld, have found ways to influence the machines into taking lives. This is a recent development, and has prompted action from the Brimbarian government.

Social Impact

Like many of Rathal Viralan's innovations, the constructs have had a massive impact on the Brimbarian nation as a whole. It has allowed the people of Brimbaria to take a more cultural aproach to developing their nation, while the constructs performed all the industrial work, such as constructing buildings, manufacturing weapons, armor, tools, and a multitude of other things.

Access & Availability
Use of this machine is fairly common, with many owners renting the machines to the lesser classes, though they are only ever owned by the wealthy.
Complexity
They are very complex machines. These constructs use a process of focusing these same natural magic strands that allow previous inventions to function. Such previous inventions include Telimagic, or the Brimbarian Skyships. The magic flows through flexible tubes that stretch throughout the machine's body, and accumulate in the construct's "head." The natural magic compresses, expands, pulls, and pushes on the different limbs.   Later models were given a sort of "voice box" and were enabled the power of speech. This innovation started the thought that they had sentience, as now, people started having conversations with the machines.
Discovery
Like many innovations, the first prototypes were built by Rathal Viralan. He had already invented Telimagic, and the Brimbarian Skyships. He invented them for the purposes of giving him some assistance during his later, more complex experiments. He needed something that could follow orders without pause. He got just that. His first variations were sufficient for the tasks he had laid forth.
