Normalization

This Religion is a Cult. Bare in mind this information is not understood publically in Lazarus, and this is a secretive religion.
Normalization is a religion built around the worship of the Prime Enigmorph Mystery, a being that represents the unfathomable truth behind existence, creation, and the eldritch horror lurking within all life. This religion operates under the belief that true understanding and transcendence can only be achieved by embracing the Void, the Seed of Creation, and the paradoxical forces that bind life to death, order to chaos, and creation to destruction. The deconstruction of all things, not for destruction, but showing how the pieces fit back together again under the guidance of one great, unknowable creator.   The religion revolves around what little is known about Mystery's true force, the Mystique. Mystique is the tension between the wild and the bound. It seeks to contain the uncontainable, creating contradictions that tear at the fabric of reality. Where Magic roams free as a beast, Mystique is a hunter with an infinite chain, always pursuing but never fully in control. Its manifestations are anomalous not because they lack rules, but because they follow unnatural, impossible rules—chains that bind not only the wild but the world itself in increasingly deranged and broken logic, which makes itself normal, despite it being anything but.   Mystique embodies the paradox of control over chaos. In trying to suppress the wild, it breaks reality into new, horrific forms. Its chains are both its weapon and its curse, a mark of its endless struggle to dominate the untamable. Mystique seems to represent a breakdown and discord—but through control, not dissolution. Mystique shackles the wildness of creation, introducing false order and unnatural stillness. What we consider 'Normal'. The problem arises where the void does not discriminate nor slow down its want to Normalize the Wyld forces at play, even despite how the world has already been created. Meaning its creations get more alien, weird, rulebreaky, or out there just to try to classify everything about magic, which in and of itself, is seemingly a lost cause.   Normalization is the worship of this process, and believing that Mana and Magic should be dominated to ensure a safe world. Some sects of this religion get extremely passionate about this topic, to the point where some extremeists of it believe the Mana Saints should be bound similar to the Eidolons.

Religious Explanation of Sins

In Lazarus, the belief system of Normalization hinges on the idea that certain traumatic events—whether personal or cosmic—give rise to Sins, which are seen as powerful, mystical manifestations of Mystique. These Sins are tangible anomalies born out of great suffering or disruption in reality itself. Much like how those who believe in spirits don't need physical proof to feel their presence, those who follow Normalization have faith in these Sins, interpreting them as clear signs of their gods' influence, even if they cannot see the origin or full shape of these phenomena.   For followers of Normalization, Sins are manifestations of their gods' power. When someone dies in agony or a catastrophic event fractures the fabric of reality, the resulting trauma doesn't just leave scars. It summons Sin, a supernatural force that embodies the suffering or imbalance caused by the trauma, as it seeks to correct it.   Rather than viewing them with fear or disdain, Normalization followers see these Sins as divine, proof of the gods' active presence in the world, evne going so far as to embrace them into the world, in potentially harmful ways. They might believe that Sins are messages from the divine, warnings about the state of the world, or even rewards for those who endure and survive the trauma.

Associated Gods

  • Mystery. The central god, the one who controls the Mystique. A faceless goddess that looks like a skeletal amalgam.
  • Babylon. Considered to be a 'Facet of Mystery'. A god that represents language in all forms, who purposefully blurs the unknown permantently who arose from the death of Truth.
  • Ialdabaoth. A deformed Mithrilweaver who nearly ended reality by ascending into a divine sin. It is believed he was requested from the god of suffering to be returned to Mystery. Suffering, seeking to avoid conflict, handed them over with the divine promise Mystery kept him under control. Ialdabaoth now is considered the 'Herald' of Normalization.
  • Yamata no Orochi. The White Mana 'Sin'.
  • Marduk. The Red Mana 'Sin'.
  • Elspyr. The Light Gray Mana 'Sin'.
  • Doctrine

    1. The Void: Embrace the Unknown The Void is the origin and end of all things. It is the ungraspable truth behind all. To understand existence, one must embrace the Void’s infinite mysteries, surrendering to the unknown to transcend the limits of the material world.   2. Mystique: Control Through Paradox Mystique binds the wild forces of the world. It is the tension between chaos and order, controlling the untamable by forcing it into unnatural forms. Mystique’s chains both suppress and transform.   3. Normalization: Creating False Order Normalization is the process of binding and classifying magic and Mana to create a stable, predictable world. What we call “normal” is the forced control of the wild and chaotic, made to seem orderly despite being inherently broken. This is the sacred task of the practitioner: to suppress the Wyld forces to ensure a safe world.   4. Binding: The Path to Safety Binding is central to Normalization. To bind is to control, not destroy. Powerful beings like Mana Saints or Eidolons must be chained to prevent them from causing chaos. Some followers believe that binding these beings is essential for the world’s survival, as their uncontrolled power threatens the balance.   5. The Hopeless Goal of Perfection Mystique’s chains aim for perfection but create more contradictions. The more you control, the more chaos arises. This cycle of contradiction is not a failure but the process of approaching transcendence. Only through this struggle can the true nature of existence come to form.
