Neon Blossoms

Lighting The Way for The Hopeless

Neon Blossoms are artificial flowers used as lighting in the EC-BOA. Fifty years ago, the infamous Q. I. Ladders, a Runomin, created them. He hoped to develop an artificial tropical paradise on the planet. The flowers were to be sources of heat in the colder regions of the inhabitable zone of the planet, and cooling units in the warmer regions of the inhabitable zone.

Unfortunately for Dr. Ladders, these neon flowers did not come to the vision that he would like. Their intended purpose was, besides temperature control and lighting, to support horticultures that were grown within the greenhouses outside Talconos. If there was no sunlight coming through the skylights of these indoor farms, they were to provide a light frequency that encourages photosynthesis. If the humidity dropped below a certain point, they were to provide mists to humidify the air.

That intended purpose was subverted when residents from the EC-BOA, Mathias, broke into the farm and took everything inside.

This included the neon blossoms.

Now, they’ve been reduced to their basic functions and used by the residents as a tool to survive the unforgiving lands.

Description. Neon blossoms look similar to Earth peonies, with multiple layers of petals unfolding from its center. They come in a variety of colors, but usually neon blues and pinks. The core, a spherical bauble that contains the routines for temperature control and lighting, supports the petals. A mechanical, adjustable stem supports the core and petals. Neon blossoms are rooted in any area that has enough solar lighting or connected to a generator. When fire is not possible due to low oxygen during the night, these blossoms help keep temperatures by buildings a bit more bearable.

Neon Blossoms, 2.0. A resident of the EH-BOA, Lanceford, has been looking to improve the Neon Blossoms for more uses than just the rudimentary functions. This resident is Thomas Williams, a human of Martian lineage. With years and a family history of living in environments that do nothing to aid would-be inhabitants, Thomas hopes to improve the Neon Blossoms with Martian technology. His only major obstacle is people against progress, his own motivation, and the nearly impossible task of combining technologies of two very different species.
