Greater Low Cat

Characteristics

Functional Tendrils. Their tendrils are thicker and more muscular then those in Lesser Low Cats. They serve most commonly as anti-predator defences, but in some species they are primarily ornamental.

Quadrapedalism. Greater Lows use four legs to move, and thus are generally faster and more agile than their female counterparts.

Digitigrade. Greaters Lows walk only on the pads of their toes. Additionally, they have retractable claws.

Carnivorous. They are either obligate or mesocarnivores, depending on the species. The mesocarnivorous species will eat fungi or insects and little plant material.

Powerful. Male Lows are considered the brawn over the females' brains, being deadly predators outfitted with natural weapons. Their intelligence varies.

Solitary. Greater Lows often live solitary lives, however, some species do prefer the company of other Greater Lows, but only on occassion. Almost all males refuse to associate with their female counterparts until breeding season, and vice versa. However, it is not uncommon for males to ally with females of different species, especially in times of hardship.

Diverse Behavior. Unlike Lesser Low Cats which are generally aggressive and territorial, the behavior of Greater Low Cats vary between species. The Greater Tallow Cat, for example, only becomes aggressive when hungry or attacked, and is otherwise neutral, even when threatened. The Greater Aboreal Cat, however, is highly aggressive, constantly searching for creatures to annoy and provoke.

Tendrils

Greater Low Cats have nine thick, exposed tendrils with no sensory organs. They are held flat against the body at rest and erected by muscles when needed. Especially fiborous, these tendrils are hardly as delicate as those of Lesser Low Cats, and can even be severed without causing the Cat much pain. Their length, position, appearance, and function varies between species.   The functions of a Greater Low Cat's tendrils can include:
  • Ornamental
  • Camouflage/Mimicry
  • Threat/Warning/Startle Display
  • Weaponry
  • Autotomy
