Snok
Snk rrrackack (a.k.a. Snok)
The heroes met Snok while underground, searching for an entrance to Uaxactun. Surprisingly, Snok greeted them with an air of sophistication, and a distinct lack of hostility. A brief conversation with the scholarly kobold about the locked door blocking their passage directs them to a rock troll where they can acquire a gem needed for bartering with the merchant Spurtt.
With the help of the heroes, he reacquired the book he was forced to trade for food, and quite willingly created a translation key of sorts for the mechanism that's locking the door. His only request was that once the heroes have finished their business in Skarilax, they will escort him safely to the Imperial Wizard Academy.
"Snok" is a surprisingly literate kobold with a greater interest in advancing his studies than any lizardfolk agenda. Banished from his home for his views, he survives by bartering with a strange little merchant named Spurt.
