Alerian Pantheon

The pantheon of gods worshipped by the Empire of Aleria centers around five major gods, chief among them the goddess that the Empire is named after. Several minor gods also exist, but it is the Pentarchs who hold most of the power.

Aleria

Aleria, goddess of the hunt, goddess of war. She is the primary deity and focal point for the people of the Alerian Empire. Even the Empress herself is known as the Heiress of Aleria. Said to have held a fiery temper and a burning ambition before her ascension, the goddess sought to prove herself superior to all her challengers.

Humar

The husband of Aleria, and rumored to have been the only companion she truly trusted, Humar is exactly what one would expect a god referred to as “The Anvil” to be. This hard, stoic god’s call to unwavering steadfastness in the face of adversity is a natural compliment to his wife’s calling. His adherents preach steadfastness and loyalty as well as wisdom and foresight.

Golador

Often depicted as an elderly warrior, Golador initially wanted nothing to do with the war against the Titans. He understood, however, that his refusal would only mean the other companions overpowering him and co-opting what strength he had cultivated, so he agreed to join. He provided a voice of level-headed pragmatism to the companions that allowed them to sustain a protracted engagement against the Titans. He held a grudging respect for Humar’s sense of duty, but was constantly at odds with Aleria’s aggressive nature.

The Divine Ascendancy

From the Alerian Codex
There are some who speculate that this land willed itself into existence. Others claim that Aleria has existed since before time itself, and that while she created the land eons ago, she only chose to reveal herself to us when our need was most dire. The wisest claim they simply do not know how this land came to be. What we do know, is this:   Before our gods were known to us, powerful creatures of great evil ruled over all creation. They were seven in number, great and terrible titans of wrath and ruin, all of them foreign to this world. These titans saw the creatures of the land as their playthings, and granted them just enough power that they might entertain the titans with their doings.   For centuries, the titans ruled over their playthings. But a day arose when some among us who learned to harness and control the power of the titans. Our gods had begun to manifest, and now, the folly of the titans would be their undoing, as these great leaders would turn the very power of the titans against them.   A great and terrible war was waged as we, the creatures of this land, joined together to rid ourselves of the yoke of our oppressors. The titans were so taken aback by our tenacity, that time after time, again and again, we smashed back their forces. Those loyal to the titans soon found themselves without hope as their false gods abandoned them.   Desperate for their own survival, the titans withdrew their yolk and granted that the creatures of this land would be rulers of their own destinies. The great leaders of our rebellion took upon themselves the divine mantle, and ascended to the heavens.   There they grant their mercies upon us, watching us, guiding us to the glorious and the divine. And we, ever faithful, serve with all our strength against the taint of corruption and decay left behind by the titans. For if we are not vigilant, if we allow ourselves to become lax against the forces of evil, the titans will seep into our world and descend upon us once more.   And surely, their wrath will know no limits.
