South rocks

The largest terrestrial city south of the split desert.
While technically connected via land, South rocks has nearly all of its transport in an out via its southern ocean port.
The desert to its northern border is dangerous for all who traverse it not only due to its vast scale, but also that shelter from the two suns is almost impossible.
South rocks owes its success to the hairline river which runs from the southern most mountains south to the isolated bay. This river nourishes the nearby plants and with irrigation methods developed over millennia, into the farms and spice fields of the south rock people.

Demographics

Due to the extreme heat, the permanent residence of South rocks are limited generally to those who can cope with the heat. This mincludes a majority of Goliaths, Dragonborn and Tabaxi.
With a minority of Yuan-ti and Centaur and dwarves.

Industry & Trade

Souths rocks produces more spices and exotic plant materials than any other territory. The constant supply of fresh water from the hairline river combined with the constant light of solar minor have made South rocks an incredibly productive agricultural powerhouse.
Mines to the southern tip of the split mountains supply precious metals and gems, this allows a south rock coinage but does not compete with the dwarven mines of the crossed mountains.
Despite its natural wealth, South rocks true strength lies in its trade as it is a central port between the east coast cities of Grey Visan and Kez heza and the western cities of Shar, Trubay and Ik Tal.
All who carry valuable goods and wish to avoid the risk of bandits and wild animals on land or the dangers of the frigid north travel though here.

Assets

As a trade hub, South rocks holds many wares. it is very rich for its size due to trade, but also holds its own in terms of production. Should trade ever dry up for some reason, South rocks is perfectly capable of being self sufficient.

History

Established millenia ago as a Goliath settlement after their move from nomadic herders on the island of Badayeh, South rocks quickly grew into an agricultural society.
While attempting to remain netural for years, the dislike of crewelty and various border disputes caused South rock to side in the creation of the nation of Ja'fith when the tabaxi rebelled against their dragonborn captives in during the early days of the age of agression.
One of few cities to be relativly unharmed during the temporal war, South rocks acted as a refuge for all those lost in the desert due to the temporal curse with rescue teams venturing out into the split desert.

Architecture

Massive chunks of sandstone make up the majority of the buildings. A geometric design favouring rounded corners and simple patterns. Huge doorways due to the above average size of the population also allow air flow to reduce the daytime heat.
Plants and fabrics shade the streets between the houses allowing a somwhat tolerable tempurature.

Natural Resources

  • Gold and semi-precious stones from the split mountains
  • Spices and dyes grow in the vally of the hairline river

  • Spiced and rhododendron honey are a local delicy, often enjoyed with fish

  • Large and bountiful fish exports from the surrounding villiages due to the rich underwater flora
