World: West Fall
West Fall - A background
Populated by settlers before recorded history, West Fall enjoys good trade relations with almost all other Realms, although only two reliable trade routes by land exist; one in the south, and one in the north. Port Lightward in the North-west enjoys year-round commerce with distant neighbours, and also hosts 1 Typhoon, West Fall's indomitable naval force. The River Lum (L-ew-m) cuts the land in half, origniating in the Barrier Hills, passing through Morningside and the capital Lumina (L-ew-min-ah), before exiting into the Wash in the south-west. A tributary feeds Lake Lum in the south.
Lumina as mentioned is the capital of this Realm, famous for its hospitality towards all races, its legendary status amongst nobles of all realms as a place of learning, and its extremely palatable alcohol. It is said that a glass of Lum-10 shared by diplomats was the breakthrough required to end the years-long conflict between West Fall and its southern neighbour , and to this day on the anniversary of its signing, dignataries share the same glass and reconfirm their commitment to the treaty.
The Barrier Hills are an imposing sight in the East, and mostly protect West Fall from the encroachment of the savage tribes of The Flat. The only way through this impentrable barrier of mountains is the ancient Dwarven tunnels of the Long Dark, a labyrinth of master-crafted tunnels that connect the Underdark to our world. In recorded history, a number of explorers claim to have successfully navigated the Long Dark to the Flats and back again, however only two claims have been judged to be verifiable by the Council of Eight. Occasional skirmishes occur between Bulwark and the entrace of the Long Dark, with the garrison of 1 and 2 West Fall nobly defending the lands from marauding barbarians from the Flats.
