Droarsi

Named after the mount on which it is build (or perhaps the mount was named after it, noone remembers it anymore), Droarsi is called the heart of winter because it is used as a refuge by the people of the winter lands as a refuge during that season. The lands on and around Droarsi Mount seem to exude heat constantly which makes this area a haven during cold times.

Government

The power is divided between the Mayor, the Hunt master and the Master of resources.   The Mayor is usually a young man voted by the population every 10 years. Whereupon, the voted individual will be trained and supervised by the current mayor for 4 years before taking over and ruling for 10 years, the last 4 will be spent training his replacement. They are incharge of keeping the peace by assigning and managing the militia; law keeping by serving as judge and dispute settler, although he may name individuals as sub-judges to relegate responsibility as needed.   The Hunt Master position is taken over by the most senior hunter to volunteer for the position when the previous Hunt Master abdicates or dies. If no hunter volunteers or the is not experienced enough, the title will be passed to the Mayor until such time when a volunteer steps up or the volunteer is considered experienced enough. They in charge of managing the city hunters, guardsand scouts. This includes securing food and payment for guards and assigning bounties to hunters according to scouts reports.   Master of Resources is usually the wealthier merchant, foreman or farmer, therefore the position is either passed to another when wealth is proven or given implicitly in the last will and testament. The responsibility is most usually shared by multiple individuals although only one officially carries the tittle. They are incharge of acting as a liason between the merchant guild and the Mayor in order to allow the management of produced resources, as well as the management of trade, mining and agriculture.

Defences

Most of the Blue steel mining serves to feed the construction and constant expansion of the winter wall. It is an 8 meter high, 2 meter thick stone construction lined on both sides with a 20 cm layer of Blue steel bricks. In addition to that, the town garrisons a civil militia of 10 000 men and women, a standing professional army of 2000. The main threat to the town are, however, the giant travonis-ul population which makes the area their territory. The hunters guild is in of defense agaist that but their numbers vary as recruitment struggles to replace the fallen.

Industry & Trade

Hot climate cultivation. Blue Steel mining. Steel ad stone masonry.

Infrastructure

The town wells are connected by a closed system which connects to an underground reservoir in the mountain, where, due to the characteristics of the Droarsi mount, the water is kept warm and sterile. A stone aqueduct onnects the reservoir to the Droarsi branch of the river Orononto in case thaw waters run low.   The city is divided into sectors according to age and use. These include:
The First sector (where most administration is located
the Living quarter (An area recently reserved for the building of houses for the growing population of the city),
the Market foregate (an area right after the main gate where peddler and vendors from outside sell their wares),
the Inner town (A mesh of habitations, stores, warehouses and all sorts of building erected as needed throughout the history of the town),
the Outer town (2 smaller sections surrounding the Market gate, where the Mayors have deemed necessary street planing to prevent the town from growing as a maze),
the Refugee Area (also called the Quarantine), a section erected and reserved for the habitation of the seasonal winter travellers come to take shelter from winter, as well as those in town too poor to afford anything else,
the Quarry (an area within the wals with a direct connectiong to the blue steel mines)
and the farm seccions (several areas still withing the walls dedicated to using the heat to grow the towns food).

Assets

Being a centre for commerce and having access to better weather conditions and resources that most of the winter lands, the town usually holds reserves of food suficient for 3 drought years in sealed stone chambers under the First sector. It also holds reserved of blue steel and other mined materials, as well as arms and tools purchased from passing merchants or manufactured in town.

Guilds and Factions

The Mayoral office is in charge of keeping the law, passing judgement on disputes, and preparing the militia. The Merchant guild headed by the Master of resources, is in charge of taxing trade and managing harvested and mined resources The Hunters Guild is in charge of recruiting and paying bounties to hunters who go out not only to gather food but also to controll the travonis-ul population. The various farming associations are, officially a subsidiary of the merchants guild but tend to act mostly independently. in addition to cultivation, they are also in charge of burial rites. Several other minor entreprises exist but are usually under the jurisdiction of the 3 main powers of administration.

History

Droarsi was built around 3 centuries ago. It started as a small human thorpe, but as word of the climate conditions spread more and more people started flowing in. withing 50 years of its creation it had grown to a town and continued to grow. eventually the population density attracted more predators, like the travonis-ul, and a more organized system of government was developed.

Architecture

Houses are build with a basement with air vents which allow warm underground air to be streamed into them, keeping them warm. Despite this, it still snows heavily in Droarsi, so the houses have steep rooves and wide eeves to avoid collapse. Due to the danger of harvesting large amounts of wood, construction relies heavily on stone and even some mined metals to a lesser extent.

Geography

Built on the slopes of the Droarsi mount.
