Apollyon

The Living Universe

Deep in the shadows of worlds, beyond the light of the stars, across the expanse of the night, the great beast hunger terribly.
— First prophet of the Feeders
Apollyon is the name giver to the The Archfjell by the Feeders, who beleive the mountain to be an extension of a massive beast under the earth that forever hunger for their offerings. They are not entirely wrong: Apollyon is a massive beast. It is in fact a living universe in its own right, the shape, purpose and nature of which is unfathomable to any mortal mind. Like any universe, it intersects various other universes leaving a portion of its body protruding the reality therein. One such intersection is the mountain of Archfjell, which exudes his influence upon the nearby space. This influence is perceived as unsatiable hunger to those who can feel it. The perception is reinforced by the actions of the Thresher Maws (see numenera bestiary 2) which inhabit Apollyon, acting as both digestive and immune systems for the beast. Despite this, it is unknow wether it needs to feed at all, or if it is even aware of those who worship it.
