Finnegan Digby

Captain Finnegan Digby (a.k.a. Fin)

Finnegan Digby is the captain of the freighter ship the Maiden Voyage. He frequently transports cargo from Kholis to the rest of the port towns throughout the continent. Some of his crew changes with every stop as some of the people on his crew work in exchange for transport to where they are needing to go.
He is a bit of an anomaly as far as dwarves are concerned. When he was younger, he heard the call of the sea from his island mountain range. Hearing this call he wandered down the mountain and found someone was willing to take him out to sea. He soon fell in love with the sea and quickly abandoned his dwarvish heritage to learn about sailing and sea-fairing trading. He would often be gone from his native home for months at a time. When he did return for varying amounts of time, he would only visit those important to him before heading off on his next sailing excursion.

History

The boat which first took him out to sea was the Lady of the Winds who was led by Athos Roseblossom. He spent several years on this ship as a deckhand seeing all of the Valteren ports as this was the main country that the Lady of the Winds did business with. They would take some of the farmed goods, as well as small amounts of dwarven drinks from the Crescent Isle, and trade them in Valteren. The work itself was difficult, spending every day scrubbing the deck of the ship and removing any debris and blood from anything caught from the occasional fishing and animal waste that happened to fall on the ship. The work felt worth it when after each trip from Crescent Ilse he would find himself in a bustling port such as in Kholis, where docks were a lot busier than from his hometown, people coming and going from several boats to pick up and drop off goods. Markets that made the cavern where all of the trade happened where he was from look small, especially under the open skies which he didn't see often, except when he worked in the fields.
After several years on the Lady of the Winds, Athos and Finnegan parted ways as Athos had a business to run, and Finnegan hoped to see more of the world. He spent a handful of years doing one or two trips for different ships before moving on to the next ship.
At the age of 39, he acquired the ship the Maiden Voyage spending the next couple of decades amassing a crew and captaining the ship as a trading vessel between Valteren and the rest of the nearby countries, regions, and islands.
