The Twins, Astaeas and Thalaias

"Ahh, Astaeas and Thalaias~! Two women locked in chains that bind their destinies together for all eternity! The lands named for you share your fate! How little do men know of your plight, that when one suffers the other follows suit...~"
  • Anonymous Bard, 502 ED
  • The Twins are a set of two continents linked to each other through a strait north of both continents. They were named after two twins of myth: Astaeas and Thalaias, twin sisters who spurned the attention of a wizard and were cursed to be chained together by the neck and feel each other's pain for all eternity.

    Geography

Astaeas and Thalaias are varied in the terrain they feature. North of the Continents they both share a mountainous region. As one travels further south on any of the Twins, one enters into grasslands, forests, and hill country.   However, there are geographical differences. Astaeas has a larger mountain range, The Irkingthand Crags, large enough to house an entire Dwarven Kingdom. Its plains are also dotted with more hills, comparatively.   Thalaias, instead, has a larger forest area south of the Shrine Mountain ranges. It also contains a large desert region in the central area of the continent.   The Twins are surrounded by two oceans and two seas. The seas are named after the continents themselves and are used primarily to determine territory than actual geographical differences.   The Twins are divided into several different nations and kingdoms, their borders established by natural geological formations. On Astaeas, the continent is essentially divided in half between the Irkingthand Alliance of Dwarven Nations, located within the mountain range of their namesake, the Irkingthand Crags, and The Minas Vale, situated beyond the Vale of Omens.

    Fauna & Flora

The Flora and Fauna in the Twins is as diverse as the people that live on it. One can encounter a wide myriad of creatures, ranging from docile deer, to goblinoids, to sandworms, to hydras, to Displacer Beasts, and so on and so forth, depending on the location one finds themselves in.
