The Legend of the Void Treasury

Summary

In 177 AON, there was an ancient dragon, a dragon so old, one could say that it breathed the stars of the night sky to life. It proclaimed to the world that these stars were its treasures. Looking down at the world from the sky, it watched as the civilizations of the world developed and soon created their own treasures. These treasures were the first treasures of the first civilizations and each represented their respective races truly. To the Dragon, these treasures shined just as brightly as the stars it claimed. In a greed representative of all dragons, It swooped down, fighting and claiming these treasures to be its own. In response, they sent out the world's First heroes to reclaim the treasures. They fought bravely, and through their combined strength, they slayed the Dragon. But the Dragon, as cunning as it was ancient, sacrificed its remaining life to kill the heroes. It almost succeeded, leaving only three.   After the battle, The heroes decided among themselves not to return the treasures, and divide the treasures among themselves. They gathered as much treasure as they could carry, then they all sealed the treasury and split the key into three pieces, in order to keep anyone from freely entering the Treasury.

Historical Basis

The three legendary heroes did exist. There are several ruins of their previous fortresses, the most well preserved being the Fortress of Rhia, which supposedly belonged to the hero Farron. "Supposedly", because the Fortress was recorded as the property of a Lord Cedric, who could be the basis of the hero Farron.

Variations & Mutation

As time passes the story warps and mutates. In some versions, the Heroes never survived. In others, the Treasury locked the heroes within, trapping them and protecting the treasure within. Others still say that the death throes of the Dragon destroyed the treasury. The last version being more readily accepted as lack of proof is proof itself.

Cultural Reception

Different Cultures have heard of the stories. The Dwarves themselves have searched throughout their mountainous territory for any signs of a treasury. Elves believe it to be make-believe, for they find it incredibly ridiculous for a dragon to horde all the world's treasures.
