Kryrid Mountains

The Kryrid Mountains are a series of tall peaks that span for several hundred miles in the world of Unchained, from north by northwest to east by southeast. They are old, gray peaks that have seen the rise and fall of empires, monsters, and everything in between. The main source of income for the people of the Kryrid Mountains is mining, hunting, logging, woodworking and stonemasonry. These people are far hardier and more durable than your standard city folk, being raised on the slopes of the mountains and working throughout the year in the harsh climates. Speaking of harsh climates, the seasons of Kryrid are only slightly varied than your typical mountainous area. Short summers and long, brutal winters are commonplace, as the temperature drops to beyond -30°F on a daily basis during the snowy months. The summers are slightly more forgiving, but they rarely reach more than 60°. Most trees here are evergreens, while the wildlife consists of deer, bears, wolves, and whatever else you'd find in a sub-arctic environment. However, some of the tougher monsters also make their homes here. The dark caves and steep canyons that dot the Kryrids make ideal homes for dragons, rocs, valley worms, and all sorts of highland-inhabiting creatures. Just like the people that live here, the monsters are tough and resourceful, seeking out whatever sustenance they can find and fit between their jaws. In all, the Kryrid Mountains are a tough place to live, but the spectacular views and free lifestyle they offer make it well worth the effort to stay. Those that can endure its icy winters and deadly animals are more than capable of surviving in the harshest environments on the planet.
