Social Classes
Wretinridge society has significant wealth and income inequality across various hierarchical groups, with the 'haves' versus 'have nots' creating tension amongst the populace.
There is limited social mobility - the ability to climb into a higher class.
The lowest tier in the social hierarchy is that of Outcast, made up of the jobless poor (beggars, vagabonds, and vagrants), mendicants, and outlaws who typically own nothing but the clothing on their backs.
The next lowest social class is that of Slave (captives, servants, serf, chattel, bondsman) who reside on an owner's property and own only a few keepsakes.
Freeman (peasants, citizens, vassals, commoner) make up much of the working class and typically have rented accommodations or farmlands, possessing their own tools or livestock.
The Gentry (steward, warden, official, alderman) own property (farm or business) begin to enjoy influence within society, often have servant retainers and enjoy support from the locals.
Aristocracy (baron, count, duke, lord, noble) own several properties, have accumulated significant wealth, financial security, and connections with the most influential members of society (politicians, religious figures.)
The highest tier in the hierarchy is that of the Ruling Class, enjoying fealty from a dominion or even a nation.
