People and Races

Civilized Races

Humans

Once dominant over the entire continent through an ancient, magic-powered Empire of warlords and sorcerers, humans today are a shadow of their former selves. They possess nothing of the nearly godlike magics of their ancient ancestors, however they are the most numerous race on the continent, numbering at nearly 200,000. Most humans today live south of the Koth Mountain Range in one of three cities, but a sizeable portion of the population live in scattered villages and farmsteads.   Humans have no central government. They are ruled by those in positions of authority where they live, such as village elders or High Chiefs of grand cities.

Elfborn

There are no true Elves anymore, having long since assimilated into human culture. Supposedly once masters of the woods and the beasts, Elves eventually integrated into human communities. All Elfborn today are actually part-Elf -- that is, humans with a small portion of Elf blood. This heritage manifests itself physically through features like pointed ears and a slightly higher resistance to sickness. Some say Elves are still more likely to be blessed with magical gifts, but such claims are anecdotal.   Elfborn tend to live in the country away from the major cities, where they are treated as something of an underclass.

Primitives

Terraka

The Terraka are a corrupted, quasi-human tribe who live in the Bone Desert. They are vicious raiders, aggressive and fierce. They appear human in many respects but are much taller with lean, spindly limbs. They are said to have originated during the Ancient Empire when a Warlord-Sorcerer cast a spell on a captured army, transforming them into the fearsome warriors and binding them to terrorize his enemies. Stone Men

Stone men are not actually made of stone, but are named for their imposing and sturdy appearance. Averaging seven feet tall, these huge, lumbering creatures of muscle live in small groups, foraging and guarding their territory fiercely. They live simple, insular lives and seem completely uninterested trade or commerce.

D'lippan

An amphibious race who live in tribes near bodies of water. They have smooth, green-blue skin, flat, featureless faces, and long muscular limbs that help propel them through the water. They are skilled with spears, darts, and poisons. They are partially intelligent and there are accounts of non-violent encounters between D'lippan and Humans, but they are best avoided.

Beasts, Spirits, and More...

There are uncounted monsters and creatures in Kothrend -- corrupted animals, hostile spirits, and even primordial beings that predate the Sorcerer Emperors of old.
