The Truth of Writing

The Truth of Writing ("a enggwastrre ama iskik" in the old tongue) is the governing basic law of Kobath. Simply said the truth of writing is the metaphysical law that makes i so that everything written is true and lies can not be written down. People are just unable to write untrue things.   The Truth of Writing was first naturally grasped by the Orri, which led them to not writing things down as they could feel the consequences this would bring.   The Bley discovered the Truth of Writing when they first wrote things done in the ancient Bley Runescript given to them by their.   Humanity realised the Truth of Writing when Jüng Mense taught the people of Roinja the language of the gods and gathered humans to form the first empire.

Manifestation

The Truth of Writing manifest itself in a number of ways:
  1. Anything written with Bley Runescript regardless of language will be a true statement about this world.
  2. Anything that is written but neither with Bley Runescript nor in the language of the Gods might not be true in this world but will always be true in another world (that world might no longer exist)
  3. Anything written in the language of the Gods but not with Bley Runescript might not be true in this world and if no other world exist where the statement is true world where the statement is true will come into existence.
  4. Texts written with Bley Runescript in the language of the Gods can affect the flow of Nara and are the basis for the magic of the world of Kobath.
  5. Any text that includes statements about the author (with the NAME of the author written in the text) will always be true regardless of language or script used.
Consequences: The consequences of the Truth of Writing are manifold and differ between cultures. For example in the old Roinjan Empire every stories (be it written down or just verbally kept) was treated as a history and not a story. Other cultures only believe written testimony as truth and have an inherent doubt to everything that is not written and just spoken. Basically all Orri cultures naturally decided not to write anything down but instead depend on oral tradition and the seeds of their Greattrees as record-keepers. The Bley on the other hand developed a highly picturesque glyph-system parallel to their normal Runescript that is so free to interpretation, that it is not considered writing and thus not covered by the Truth of Writing. More basic consequences are the following:
  1. Writing down lies is just not possible. If the writer knows the sentence he is about to write is a the author will not be able to write down that sentence. if on the other hand an author writes a lie unknowingly the text will disappear as if it was not written to begin with.
  2. Only people with a certain blessing can write magical texts (text in the language of Gods written with Bley Runescript) for anyone else attempting to write a magical text the writing will disappear as soon as it is written or carved regardless of the truth of the written statement.
  3. General statements about the future can only be written down by the few people that have the gift of Prophecy (Greater Blessing of Mother Time).
  4. Statements about the future of the writer are a tricky things as they always are true or become true and are not to be trifled with because it can lead to situations where a written statement turns falls, which erases the statement as it was never written but has additionally dire consequences for the writer. Here are two examples:
  • A) If Jack writes: "I, Jack, will from this day on always love you, Jane." he will always love her regardless of what she does to him he will love her.
  • B) If jack writes: "On the fifth of September 2019 I, Jack, will buy a bread." but than Jack gets imprisoned on the fourth of September 2019 and thrown into a dungeon for two days, he will die on the beginning of the sixth of September 2019 as he was unable to buy bread on the fifth. But he will not just be dead. His personal Nara will leave him and dissipate and the corpse will be avoided by the general flow of Nara, turning the corpse into literal dead space until the corpse is cremated.
A direct consequence of future statements about one self are contracts.
