Krazvir

Krazvir are a subspecies of bighorn sheep found in Agafon's heartland. They are easily distinguished by their russet red wool and unusually large stature.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Krazvir sheep are much larged in bone structure than the other species in the Agafonian territories. Their horns are known for their durability. Their heads are defined by a wide, unusually flat skull. Their wool is a rich russet red and noticably more fine in texture than other species. They are very muscular and possess great strength.

Ecology and Habitats

This species lives in the grasslands of the Agafonian heartland. They, however, have been found scaling the great mountains that border the territory.

Behaviour

This species is known for its hostility. If a krazvir, especially a ram, catches sight of what it percieves to be a threat, it will charge without hesitation. The members of this species herd together, with one to three rams typically found within a flock. However, older rams have been sighted far from the nearest herd, heading toward the distant mountains.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

While the majority of this species is clustered in the grasslands, a notable number have been found in the mountainous regions of Agafon. These krazvir are, without discovered exception, larger, bolder, and older than the sheep found in the grasslands.

Average Intelligence

The krazvir seem to gain intelligence as they age. While the sheep found in the grassland are typically only slightly more intelligent than the other species of bighorn sheep found in the area, the general intelligence of the sheep found in the mountainous regions is more reminiscent of wolves or lions than mere sheep.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Krazvir sheep have excellent senses. While their sight is said to be unnaturally sharp and perceptive, the species does not actually possess any supernatural powers.

Civilization and Culture

History

The first krazvir is said to have been discovered by Kasha Ivanoch, the legendary partner of Mavyad Ivanoch. After she returned from her disappearance into the heartland wearing the skull of a krazvir ram, a tradition was born. At the end of Agafonian warriors' training, the five cadets that present the most skill out of their peers are sent into the mountains, with no supplies, armor, or weapons. They each must then kill a krazvir ram found in the region, but not one found in the nearby grasslands. If they return bearing the skull of a ram, they are apprenticed to a currently serving commander and no longer considered a novice. While tradition would imply that these cadets integrate the horns of the creature into their armor, this is not always the case. While Kasha's unique headgear was said to represent her desire to fight for her individuality, some cadets take a different approach. Instead of wearing the skull, they present it to their families to be displayed in the home. This action signifies a desire to uphold the family's honor instead of pursuing individual glory. In recent years, this has grown in popularity, and wearing the skull is beginning to be seen as a sign that the skull's owner wishes to no longer be associated with their family.
Conservation Status
Agafonian efforts to preserve the species are well thought-out and have been in place ever since the death of Kasha Ivanoch. Because of the species' strong cultural value, the killing of krazvir is only permitted under certain circumstances.
