Rhyl

Nestled in the far-northern end of the Continent of Kildar is the mining town of Rhyl. Originally a dwarven city, Rhyl’s narrow cobbled streets and maze-like alleyways now harbour a much more diverse variety of heritages. Sturdy stone walls surround the city, protecting it from the cold, biting climate as well as whatever manner of creatures lurks outside the fortified walls. Towering, dwarven-style buildings line the shipyard and various water-ways of the city, their surfaces eroded from generations of persistent rain and frost.    The city thrives on the trade of precious minerals and ores extracted from its own mines, its multiple harbours exporting both raw and refined materials throughout Kildar. Along the tight-packed lantern-lit storefronts, adventurers will find jewelers, smiths and trade outposts. For many generations, three noble families have overseen the city’s mining operations.   Yet, beneath the surface of Rhyl’s prosperity there is more than just precious gemstones. A criminal underbelly, fueled by the city’s export, has become increasingly prevalent and daring in their activities. In the dark alleyways, alliances are formed through whispers, and promises of stolen wealth made. Any adventurer who fails to watch their step will quickly find themselves wrapped up in the clandestine dealings of the local Thieves’ Guild. Moreover, there have been rumors of disappearances in the mines of Rhyl, as well as strange sightings and noises. Some who enter Rhyl’s mines, are never the same once they exit.   Rhyl’s fortified walls have always protected it from threats from the outside, but when threats emerge from within the city, ruling families find themselves in desperate need of help.
