The Seekers

The Seekers are members of the ancient Guild of Seekers. With a seekers talent being spotted very young, new recruits tend to be younger then 18, sometimes even younger than 10. Always desperate for more members, the Seekers will do anything to get a recruit to join them, including buying children with talent from their parents.   The Seekers darkness doesn't stop with being willing to buy children and continues far into adulthood for these young naive recruits. The recruits are put through grueling personal strife, broken down and built back up to become stern masters of their own emotions. It's a difficult process, and often times it comes with the death of a cherished one, or the perceived death of a loved one at the very least. After all, to work with death, you must witness it.   After the initial process of gaining access to magics otherwise locked away for those outside the Guild, life improves for a Seeker. The Seekers are trained to become shadows, secrets among the common folk. Some are trained to be able to take care of loose ends for a spirit, others are trained to interact with next of kin to return the lost souls that they seek to help. The specialty depends on the person, and then of course there are those rare few who can do it all. Those Seekers tend to be heralded on a different level in the Guild, as they are so rare.   Seekers are trained to want for little, receiving very little coin for their troubles is a natural occurrence for them, only the most talented of them get the seeking jobs with commissions, and even then, those are few and far between. With this job being such an unreliable source of income, Seekers tend to live off the land, many picking up hunting skills along the way.    Seekers are extremely skilled, and are awarded the capability to use necromantic magics, and speak with the dead at graduation from their training. With those skills in hand, they are often kicked out to go seek out their first soul object, and find its home. Many times the graduates return with a soul object but lacking the next of Kin, to which they are sent out again with a different object to find its owner. This will be repeated until the graduate succeeds, and once they do, they are allowed to pick their own soul object to find its home.    The rarest of graduates find their soul objects owner before returning to the Academy, and those that do are put into another test. They are given an object otherwise thought to not have a home, one that has sat in the vault of the Guild for years, and they are tasked to find its owner. Upon success the Seeker is immediately promoted, and invited into a special sect of the Guild, known as the Lost Squad.    The Lost Squad is a group of Seekers who have a talent for finding those objects homes, that are otherwise thought completely lost. When an object is permanently lost, it loses its luster, its magical energy, and so those that still have a glimmer of that luster are kept, and give to the Lost Squad to find its home. The Lost Squad is not tracked on how many successful objects they find the homes for, as these lost objects, sometimes just don't have a home anymore.
