Asino Bac

"Asino Bac is a sort of safe haven in a very harsh environment that is basically uninhabitable. Sometimes being inside is no better though, what with all the kidnappings, murders, and other petty crimes." - A long term resident

Asino Bac is one of the last remaining moons of the recently destroyed Celus III, in which the inhabitants have fled to (formerly known as Celus V). Aside from the refugees, the moon is home to various crime lords and thugs who take advantage the fragile government that exists there. The moon itself is only partially habitable, consisting of several 'hub cities' that act as safe zones from the toxic atmosphere and unforgiving environment.

Geography

The moon has a mostly rough surface with various craters, but features many 'man-made' natural aspects; There are many hand sculpted riverbeds and oceanic depths that were intended for water. The surface also hides many deep caves and cliffs that often lead to abandoned equipment or camps. Aside from the several hub cities that dot the moon's surface, there is no flora or fauna that can exist in the toxic atmosphere.

Fauna & Flora

Any plants or animals that exist on Asino Bac are imported either from Celus III, or other outside sources as the moon cannot support life naturally.

Natural Resources

Asino Bac was once thought to be home to a large variety of rare metals, but it was later determined that most of these metals were brought over from stray meteorites that struck the moon's surface. However, the moon is abundant in iron and various gemstones.

History

Asino Bac was intended to be a residential district for many of the inhabitants of Celus III, as well as a tourist destination. Original brochures indicated that the location would be similar to that of a tropical paradise. However, the terra-forming production never fully took off- only having a somewhat stable atmosphere and a weak magnetic field to show for decades of work. It was only fully realized, when the populace of Celus III fled to the moon, that the construction of the residential paradise had never truly begun. Fortunately for the inhabitants, the transport ships they flew on would double as mobile habitats. Over time the new residents of Asino Bac would build from these habitats and form a city which would be given the same name that the moon is now known by. Most of the construction costs and resources were covered by the notorious, Azdeks Gruldall, a suspected crime boss. Azdeks served as a major force in supplying the people with raw materials for construction, as well as providing jobs for the people. The people came to support Gruldall so much that many volunteered him to act as a governing figure, as he stood up for the people, where their old leaders couldn't. Azdeks instead provided a person who would represent him politically, and this was satisfactory with the majority. When first established, there were many projects put in place to support the people and lead to the continued growth of Asino Bac. Unfortunately after 15 years, most of these projects were dropped and various slums were created where crime began to rise. Over time, the upper and lower classes became more and more divided. Now with eight cities, Asino Bac is governed by an oligarchic council of City officials back by various sponsors.

Tourism

Asino Bac is a very contemporary tourist destination, being made up of eight large cities and not much else. The largest city, also named Asino Bac is a bustling mega metropolis, and home to a variety of cultures. For example Asino Bac is also home to a small clan of Illithids, or mind flayers, which are believed to be one of the remnants of the great mind flayer empire. There are also tours held that describe the history of Celus III and Celus V, and even take trips to the outer atmosphere of Celus III.
