The Lightning Rock

History

The Lightning Rock was a great religious icon to those who followed Garalon the Gale of Dread. The stories of the Lighting Rock stretch back thousands of years, the most common tells of a great storm on the coast of Kelkanor, where the City of Stormwind is now located, raged for ten nights and ten days until from its bolts of lighting Garalon launched a singular tear, which landed with a crash that deafened all within a hundred leagues of it. The stone is an enormous blue marble, however, when the first light of dawn touches the stone it's blue colour turns translucent and the divine energy inside can be observed dancing inside the stone. The Stone received its name not for its light within but for its ability to attract lightning in every storm, the rock clashes with lightning keeping the crackling energy around its stone.   The Lightning Stone rose in prominence when the Lightning Speaker Clan of Orcs built their faith around its special property believing it to the gift of their god Gorok and the Light that shone within was the essence of an angel of Uriel who Gorok had imprisoned. The Orcs here would use the Lighting that the stone attracted to forge crude weapons imbued with Garalons rage, although they believed it to be Goroks torment of the angel made manifest.   After Daranths conquest of the area, he declared the stone a holy site of the gods of his church and as the bay became a natural harbour of trading and commerce the eventual town that sprung around it developed the land, a small church turned into a larger one and eventually at the Crowning of King Darnath Anderhiem 1st of Stormwind The Lighting Stone had the first cathedral to the seven built around its blue form.
