The Calathean System consists of 5 planets that orbit around Euphraxia, a blue sun. The intensity of the blue sun creates a "death zone" around it. An area hot enough to be incompatible with life. The closest 2 planets, all within 85 million miles of the sun, are inhospitable. They are dry wastelands, with no sign of life.
The 3rd planet is superheated and barely able to maintain any semblance of life. It has been noted that metallic creatures may have been spotted on the planet.
The 4th planet is still relatively close to Euphraxia, but has a unique feature that creates a safe haven for life. The planet is covered entirely by water. Precipitation from the endless oceans keep the planet's temperatures within 60-90 degrees fahrenheit during the day.
The 5th planet is at risk of falling out of orbit. It is far enough away from Euphraxia to be a cold and frigid region, and as the star rapidly burns through its fuel and shrinks, its gravitational pull becomes weaker. The planet is slowly unraveling.
