Okay I'm gonna be honest this is for an RPG Maker MZ game, which doesn't show up on here. NNWM recommended this site to me but I'm guessing it's not for video games, but TTRPGs? Oh well, whatever. Pronounced "kah-yeh." Kaye is named after a mythological goddess of the ocean, Kaiya, believed to have blessed Kaye from ancient times. However, religion has fallen into unpopularity in modern times, so the name Kaye is largely apocryphal. The primary cities of Kaye are on the northern coast, around the trading ports that are the lifeblood of the nation. Most of the nation, dedicated to farming, was razed in the war waged a few years ago by the southern bordering nation, Saras in the language of Kaye and Dumona in the native language. Kaye called them after Sarsan, god of the plains, while Dumona calls themselves after the primary god they worship, Dumanas, god of war and arbiter of souls. Whereas Kaye has become less religious over time, Dumona has recently been gripped by Dumonan fundamentalism, a consequence of the plague that has struck their crops and the subsequent closing of the Kaiye-Dumonan border. Dumona declared war on Kaye in part because of a desire to convert the Kaiye to Dumanism but mostly as a poorly disguised attempt to take their arable land. Despite losing the war, the Dumanist faith has not dwindled but in fact has become more fervent, and even the Dumanist churches in Kaye, viewed with as much suspicion as they are, have become more proselyte in recent years. Prophets of Dumanas are predicting that the betrothed of Dumanas, marked by a red birthmark, will soon be found in Kaye or the surrounding islands, and Dumonan immigrants have become more religious as they move to Kaye for economic reasons. However, the Kaiye and Dumonans are not very dissimilar at all; they both hold a deep respect for nature and hold "biological magic" in high regard, and their traditions and religious rites have often been aimed at better understanding the inner workings of the natural world. While Kaye has taken a more precise, scientific approach to biological magic these days, the workings of "bio-mages" are still in high demand, changing people's appearances, voices, hormonal makeups, etc. at any time, the only banned changes being of customers' fingerprints and "magical signatures." The current ruler of Kaye, Sovereign Aldenus, has made moves to bring peace between the Dumanists and wider Kaiye society (including the Dumonan immigrants who follow other religions), but these moves are viewed with suspicion at best, due to his general opulence and extravagance (as well as long-standing stereotypes about Dumanism that came from wartime propaganda). In fact, he seems to be using the Dumanist churches for his own financial and political gain, and there are even rumors that he, too, has been hunting for the Betrothed of Dumanas to gain total control over Kaye and Dumona alike. It is actually because of this distrust and stereotyping that the Dumanist Dumonan immigrants (confusing, I know, but this is as opposed to the Sarsanian, Kaiye, etc. Dumonans) primarily moved to the northern islands, as opposed to the populous port cities or the rebuilt southern farmlands that they once helped raze. The northern islands, due to the distance from the mainland of Kaye, are more traditionalist and spiritual, as well as slower to receive news and to change their culture and ideas. They don't have a lot of the same ideas about the Dumonans and Dumanists as those on the mainland, and as a result, Dumanism has exploded in the islands, converting many young people who had grown disillusioned with their grandparents' faith.
