Night Haunters

The infamous Night Haunters are the apex predator of the Dark side of Kastellia. Attacks on Humans are very rare, but not unheard of.   Their normal prey is the Ice Mammoth

Basic Information

Anatomy

Mechanicus Biologis reports show the Night Haunter as being a 6 limbed quadrupedal reptilian predator, it holds its body in a hunched over manner, making it's head height being just over 2.5 meters, if it was not hunched over however, speciments have been seen to reach 3 meteres tall.   Night Haunters two 'arm limbs' progress into sword length scythes used for hunting prey and; according to Rigger crews, also tunnelling into ice.   the head of a Night Haunter is long with a bulbous end, which houses a complex biological radar instead of eyes; much like Terran bats of ancient times, however far more powerful. The Haunters make a rapid clicking sound from their mouths to create a sort of active radar when sound is lacking.   the Maw of a Night Haunter is quite unique as it is not a mouth, but more a set of 4 mandibles that are able to close up the maw fully, giving the illusion of no mouth at all until the mandibles open to show thousands of teeth all across the inner surface, continuing into the inner maw and throat. specimens that have been recovered show the average maw diameter to be slightly larger than a human adult head   Night Haunters are covered in a slick mucus that they secrete though their matte black skin which seems to help insulate what little internal heat they need to survive the harsh ice wastes.   Due to their habitat, Haunters actively avoid light and heat, particularly bright or hot sources have been known to damage specimens.

Additional Information

Average Intelligence

sentient, apparent pack mentality

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Night Haunters possess highly advanced biological radar and sonar abilities, it is speculated that should the aparatus in the head be damaged the Haunter would suffer greatly, possibly even perishing from the trauma. the whole bio radar array is however surrounded by thick skin and bone, requiring heavy duty disection tools to cut through.   Haunters also show a basic pack mentality, when spotted they are very rarely alone and survivors of attacks report between 2-5 Haunters at once
