Jonahaz Prank

Jonahaz de Averia (a.k.a. Prank)

Jonahaz was born of the unlikely mating of an elven male (Johan Litefingers) and a female Amethyst dragon (Averia). Averia spent much of her time in human form, working to keep the local villagers from moving too close to the entrance of the lair complex which was her true home. However, after spending so much time with the villagers, she found herself attracted to their local storyteller and entertainer (a bard, fancy that). Against all odds, she eventually found herself carrying his child. Though she was hesitant to reveal her true self, she felt that she owed it to the father of her child.   After taking him farther from the village that he had ever travelled, she reverted to her true self and waited for her lover's reaction. Even in awe, he was able to joke about what he was seeing..."I KNEW there was something different about you!" After he settled down, she explained her past to him...trusting him to keep her secrets.   When their child was born, Averia chose to leave Johan behind in order to raise child amongst the other dragons of her enclave. The child was raised in the lore and traditions of her clan, but as it grew older, it realized rapidly that he was not like the other 2-3 dragon children of the clan. Upon his 15th birthday, his mother finally filled him in on his father. Rather than be disgusted, he was intrigued. Realizing that he never going to attain the size and shape of his mother's family, he decided that he would wander the world of humans in order to learn more about them, and himself.   Upon reaching his father's village, it became obvious that he would stick out far too much, so continued on his way until he came a small city a number of leagues from his home. Though his appearance was strange, there were numerous other races within the walls and he found some semblance of acceptance. Rather than expose his true nature, he made up a story of losing his parents to a rare and strange disease that caused his 'abnormalities'.....light purple skin covered in scales, small horn-like plates along his brow, head and spine. Living as an orphan, Jonahaz learned many things, including how to move silently as a mouse and swiftly like the breeze. Unsure of what to do with himself, he took up numerous occupations as he grew; including a stable boy at one of the inns, purveyor of game birds for two of the butcher shops in his neighborhood (his natural ability with a crossbow seemed to work out well for this), even took up with circus that set up in the city for the summer season. His street skills translated over nicely into performing with the tightrope walkers. As another side 'job', he learned that his face could not be read by those who would gamble with him so he manage to amass a wee bit of wealth.   A kind monk who watched his performance at the circus saw a bit of possibility in Jonahaz, so invited him to come train with his order. Always seeking more knowledge (in order to further his desire for wealth), he agreed. Even though he chose not to enter the order, his studies with the monks put him in a better position to defend himself, both physically in combat/evasion and legally (one of the brothers was a barrister who worked in the local court of law.) In trying his hand to create new things, he studied with a sculptor, but found it to be much too tedious for his tastes. The city docks had a number of small ships that would travel down the river and out to the sea for brief forays of fishing and trade. After watching some of the sailors amongst the rigging, he figured that maybe being a sailor would satisfy him. However, as with his other endeavors, it soon lost it's appear and back to land he went.   On one of his hunting trips, he discovered a newly opened cave network behind a waterfall a few miles outside the city walls. True to his draconic nature, he decided that this would become 'his' lair (at least for now, until he could amass enough treasure that would welcome him back into his mother's clan.) Once he claimed it, his next mission was to begin filling it. His time on the streets, as well as stories of his father, led him to become a gatherer of things, things that did not originally belong to him yet 'found' their way into his possession. His most prized find was a small copper coin that had a tiny flame burning from it like a candle, yet caused no heat or damage...merely a soft light. Fascinated by it, he vowed to figure out how it was done..as well as other things!
