Chromatic Dragons

Chromatic dragons are a type of dragon distinguished typically by a solid, non-reflective coloring of their scales, hence the name. They are generally evil, greedy, and predatory, and usually worship Tiamat, whom they regarded as their queen.

Types

Although there are many chromatic dragon species, the following are the ones known by the sages:   Red Dragons Red dragons are greedy, chaotic evil creatures, interested only in their own well-being, vanity, and the extension of their treasure hoards. They are supremely confident, being the largest and most powerful of the chromatic dragons. Typically found living in mountainous regions, they breath a cone of fire.   Black Dragons Black dragons, or skull dragons, are the most vile-tempered and cruel of all chromatic dragons. Excellent swimmers who normally live in swamps and marshes, they prefer ambush attacks. They have a corrosive acid breath weapon.   Blue Dragons Blue dragons, or storm dragons, are manipulative, lawful evil chromatics who are infamous for their skill at creating hallucinations, and their cruel use of such things. They prefer aerial combat, which allows them to use their electrical breath weapon most efficiently. Blue dragons most often live in arid wastelands and deserts. They are the second most powerful of the chromatic dragons.   Green Dragons Green dragons are highly territorial, deceptive, forest-dwelling creatures who love secrets and intrigue. Although lawful evil, they are duplicitous and cunning foes who love combat. They are the third most powerful of the chromatic dragons. Their breath weapon is a cone of poisonous green gas.   White Dragons White dragons, also called ice dragons or glacial wyrms, are the smallest and weakest of the classic chromatic dragons. However, they are by no means harmless. White dragons are extremely well-suited to their arctic habitat and have excellent memories. They are more feral than other dragons, though, and always chaotic evil. They breath a cone of ice or frost.   Brown Dragons Brown dragons, also called great desert dragons, are wingless, neutral evil dragons who lair in deserts. They prefer ambushes to straightforward combat, burying themselves in the sand.   Purple Dragons Purple dragons, also called deep dragons, are slender, agile dragons who patiently stalk their prey. They live in the Underdark and are rarely found on the surface. Purple dragons often ally with drow, and consider themselves rivals of cloakers and mind flayers. They are chaotic evil and have a psychic "breath weapon" that confuses and disorients the target.   Gray Dragons Gray dragons, also called fang dragons, are rapacious, violent dragons that are good at physical combat but poor at flying. Some gray dragons possess an acid breath weapon.   Yellow Dragons A very rare species of chromatic dragons, only a few individuals of this species have been spotted throughout history. Yellow dragons are solitary predators and secretive creatures, even among dragons.   Magenta Dragons Obsessive and possessive, magenta dragons are greedy to a fault, little issues in this dragon's life consume their being to an almost compulsive nature. Magenta dragons are bipolar, their attitudes and emotions towards things in their lives change at a whim. Unlike most chromatic dragons that find themselves living in natural caves or jungles, Magenta dragons prefer to live in cities molded by gnomes or elves.   Orange Dragons The most domineering of chromatic dragons, orange dragons are exceedingly vain and arrogant. They seek to dominate all creatures foolish enough to enter their demesnes, though they find gnomes and halflings ugly, and eat them on sight.   Pink Dragons Bubbly and aloof, pink dragons care little for the lives of other chromatic dragons. Pink dragons enjoy their free time, typically for swimming in the ocean. They seek to live in relative peace in their coral castles but have no problem defending themselves from the undersea creatures that intrude near its lair.
