Battle of Lake Ikengo (I-Ken-Go)

High King Devon Torran's conquest had brought him to the Kingdom of Ituri, a land of dense jungles, swamps, and vast rivers. The Iturians were fierce warriors, adept at ambushes and guerrilla tactics, and they had rallied under the banner of their queen, N'kisi.   The decisive battle took place at Lake Ikengo, a large body of water that was of strategic importance to both sides. N'kisi's army had gathered on the western shore, while Devon Torran's forces had set up their camp on the opposite shore.   The battle began with a barrage of arrows from the Iturian archers, who had positioned themselves on elevated ground. Devon Torran's knights charged across the shallow waters of the lake, only to be met with a wall of spears and shields. The Iturians fought with ferocity, slashing and stabbing with their machetes and poisoned darts.   As the battle raged on, Devon Torran ordered his engineers to construct pontoon bridges to cross the lake. The Iturian archers tried to stop them with flaming arrows, but the construction continued. Once the bridges were completed, Devon Torran sent his cavalry across, trampling through the shallow waters and charging into the Iturian ranks.   The fighting intensified, with both sides suffering heavy casualties. Queen N'kisi personally led her elite guard, the Red Spears, into the fray, cutting down any enemies who came too close. Devon Torran fought on the front lines, wielding his massive battle-axe and cleaving through the Iturian warriors.   The turning point of the battle came when Devon Torran's elite guard, the Iron Wolves, broke through the Iturian lines and attacked the queen's personal bodyguards. N'kisi was wounded in the fighting and was forced to retreat towards the jungle with her remaining forces. Devon Torran pursued them relentlessly, cutting down any who tried to resist.   With their ranks broken and their morale shattered, the Iturian army retreated towards the jungle, pursued by Devon Torran's forces. The water of Lake Ikengo turned red with blood, and the stench of death hung over the battlefield for months.   The Battle at Lake Ikengo was a costly victory for High King Devon Torran, but it had secured his hold over the Kingdom of Ituri and sent a message to the other kingdoms that his conquest was unstoppable.
