Thaumaturge-Steam

"On the Old days, all of Karash depended on the Old Magic: Pacts with the gods, the Wild things in the woods, and the study of runes and scrolls in temples of learning, and in the huts of wizened women and men... Except, for the Elves. They had another way, one that combined the efficiency of clockwork, the reliance of steam, and the power of the Embers of Magic..." Excerpt of 'seeking the Divine Machinery', by Reynald Vallente, Artificer of the Royal Court of Barza

Utility

The most common use of Thaumaturge-Steam is to power certain modes of transportation: The Thunder Rail, a series of wagons or railcars joined together into a main railcar, that pulls them together via a metal rail. The Sky-Ships, that vary from the common Zippers (small sky ships that stay afloat with balloons, but are propelled via Core-fed propellers), Ironclads (bigger ships that resemble sea ships, only that they use balloons in emergencies), or even the Leviathans (the rarest of them all, mostly made by Elves , which are an upscaled version of the Ironclads, but, it is believed the Academy has a comparable ship, called 'The Emperor of the Skies'),   Another use of the Core is to power Clockwork prosthetics, although in this case the core is so small that sometimes it may overload and cause problems in the long run, so it's advised to let it "Cool off" during the night.   And finally, Thaumaturge-steam helps giving life to certain artifacts and automata previously thought as purely 'Magical items' of a sort.

Manufacturing

The components required for a Core are: A housing compartment made of either Iron or Brass (normally is the size of a medium-sized humanoid fist), several runes of Binding and Elemental Summoning must me inscribed on its surface, and inside the compartment, there must be two elements Brough from the Element of Fire and Water (or, in substitution, a stone of an active volcano, and water from a geyser). After that, several summing requirements much be purchased for a Summoning spells, with the Core inside a Magic Circle. Once this is done, the mind of the Artificer must bing the Elementals into the Core, otherwise they will break out and cause havoc.
Access & Availability
Taumathurge-Steam device
by John Severin Brassell
While the creation is available, its contents are hard to find, and so, there is a restricted use.
Complexity
At its core, Thaumaturge-Steam is basically common steam technology, with the sole exception of a lack of a common furnace. Instead, it uses an Elemental Core, a device that binds two elemental sources to bring power to the device: An Elemental of the Plane of Fire, and an Elemental of the Plane of Water.   When bound, the Core generates near unlimited power, and can power clockwork devices, activate runes (as long as the runesmith created it with that intention), or simply empower an automata.
Discovery
Developed first by the Duskborn Elves in their underground cities, it was first used on affixed places due to the availability of underground steam vents, calderas, and hot springs.
